Beckson CEO Receives Prestigious Business Award

Bob Beckerer, CEO of Beckson Manufacturing, Inc., recently received the prestigious 2007 Jeffery Butland Family-Owned Business of the Year Award. Given by the U.S. Small Business Administration, the award honors Beckerer "for maintaining a successful company dedicated to providing superior thermoplastic products and services." He also was commended for significant contributions to the community.

The award recognized Beckerer's commitment to education and mentoring within the company and community. Many employees receive their GED and college degrees thanks to Beckson's funding. Beckerer founded a local charter school, the Bridge Academy for grades 7-12, and is active in local business organizations.

One of the hallmarks of Beckson's line, this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Thirsty-Mate handheld bilge pump, the first durable, all-plastic machine to operate in the world. Superior to the traditional galvanized sheet metal, bronze and leather pumps of the day, customers immediately embraced Thirsty-Mate's lighter weight, excellent strength and unmatched corrosion resistance.

The pump's popularity led to Beckson's development of hundreds of other plastic products for a myriad of industries. Beckson thermoplastic products are used by manufacturers of furniture, display items, gaming tables, RVs and armored cars. Plastic clips, watertight access hatches, drink holders, fasteners and plastic hinges are just a few of Beckson Manufacturing's 900 products. The company holds more than two dozen patents.
