BEA Raises Bar for Application Performance and Reliability With Latest Release of JRockit and Delivers the Foundation for WebLogic Real Time(TM)

Continued Innovation Helps Deliver Unprecedented Performance to Customers Looking to Deploy Next-Generation Applications and Web Services

BEAWORLD 2005 BEIJING, Dec. 8 - BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BEAS), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced its latest release of BEA JRockit 5.0(R). The new products further demonstrate the company's commitment to meeting developers and IT executives' high performance and reliability requirements in deploying next-generation Java applications and Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs).

BEA JRockit 5.0 has been specifically architected for use by large-scale, mission-critical, server-side applications running on high-performing Intel(R) processor-based servers, including 64-bit support for the Intel(R) Xeon(R) and Intel(R) Itanium(R) processors. The latest release of BEA JRockit 5.0 is designed to provide support for new platforms, including Solaris OS, Red Flag Linux Servers, and SPARC-based systems, and unprecedented tooling with the BEA JRockit(R) Mission Control suite, which is designed to improve application reliability. The deterministic capability of JRockit is key to the forthcoming BEA WebLogic Real Time product, which is designed to help deliver predictable real-time application responses. When application response time is measured in milliseconds, BEA WebLogic Real Time meets SLA requirements like garbage collection pause times and can provide predictable performance.

"Our focus is to continue to reach new levels of innovation in order to help our customers deploy their enterprise applications quickly and efficiently," said Rob Levy, chief technology officer, BEA Systems, Inc. "JRockit continues to impress and set the industry benchmark as the world's fastest JVM for large-scale, mission-critical, server side applications."

Featuring a range of ground-breaking capabilities, JRockit 5.0 is designed to help developers reach new levels of productivity, manageability, performance and stability. In addition to Windows and Linux support on Intel(R) processor-based platforms, for the first time JRockit will be available on Solaris OS and SPARC-based systems. In addition, BEA announced an agreement with Red Flag Software to bundle BEA JRockit with the Red Flag Linux Server to provide Chinese customers, such as the China Post, with high performance J2EE solutions. Enterprises can now choose one JVM across multiple hardware platforms and mixed environments by standardizing on the fastest JVM in the industry, as BEA JRockit is designed with consistent tooling for all production environments.

Complimenting the latest release of BEA JRockit are the separately available performance tools included in the BEA JRockit(R) Mission Control offering. The new suite is comprised of unique performance management tools that help monitor, manage, profile, and eliminate memory leaks in a customer's Java applications without introducing the performance overhead normally associated with tools of this type or requiring a server restart to initiate a troubleshooting session. BEA JRockit Mission Control suite includes three tools that help provide developers and system administrators with a superior level of real-time visibility and control. These capabilities are designed to help developers optimize application performance and support system quality through changing usage patterns and business conditions. The new tools include:

o The BEA JRockit Management Console. This tool is designed to capture and presents live data about garbage collection pauses, memory utilization and CPU usage, as well as information from any JMX MBean deployed in the JVM internal MBean server. This capability can help provide developers and system administrators real-time visibility and control over the inner workings and behaviors of multiple JVM instances in a network.
o The BEA JRockit Runtime Analyzer (JRA). JRA is an on-demand 'flight recorder' that can helps produce detailed recordings about the JVM and the application it is running to help developers view and analyze the behavior of applications in production environments.
o The BEA JRockit Memory Leak Detector. This new feature is a real-time profiling tool that is designed to discover and find the cause of memory leaks.

BEA JRockit Provides a Rock Solid Foundation for WebLogic Real Time(TM)
BEA WebLogic Real Time is being designed to deliver predictable application response rates to help ensure that time-sensitive transactions occur without unanticipated delays. BEA JRockit, and its unique deterministic garbage collector, available only as part of the forthcoming BEA WebLogic Real Time are designed to help enable the use of Java technology in areas previously reserved for C-programming. Future releases of WLRT will include technologies to provide the industry's most compelling "real-time" latency-sensitive infrastructure.

"In the financial services sector, the cost center is not just part of the business, it is the business," said Guy Churchward, general manager of the Java Runtime Products Group, BEA Systems, Inc. "WebLogic Real Time is all about performance. Line of business decision makers can be confident that WebLogic Real Time is designed to meet their mission-critical response requirements."

JRockit 5.0 is Available Today
BEA JRockit(R) is included as part of BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform and BEA and WebLogic Server.
