BEA Helps Drive Transition to Next-Generation Service Delivery Architecture With Expansion of Telecommunications Partner Ecosystem

Intel and HP Are Joined by More Than 20 New Companies to Help Drive Convergence of IT and the Telecom Network

BEAWORLD 2005 - PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BEAS), one of the world's leading application infrastructure software companies, today announced a significant milestone in driving the convergence of IT and the telecom network with the addition of more than 20 new partners to its telecommunications partner ecosystem. BEA already maintains significant IT presence in the telecommunications industry through its BEA WebLogic(R) and Tuxedo(R) products, and by working with Intel Corporation and partners HP, Convergys, CSG, elata, EMC, Intec Telecom Systems, Metasolv, MobileAware, TietoEnator and Amdocs. Today's announcement expands the BEA partner ecosystem to include support for the BEA WebLogic Communications Platform(TM) from network and service delivery leaders including Acme Packet, AePONA, AudioCodes, Brooktrout Technology, Convedia, Digital X, Foundry Networks, InCode, Infosys Technologies, Intervoice, IP Unity, ILOG, IONA, Mahindra British Telecom (MBT), MySQL, Net4Call, NetCentrex, SandCherry, Turnberry Solutions, Wily Technology and others.

"A major challenge facing telecom operators is monetization of their infrastructure investments of the last few years, particularly in the face of flat to declining revenues from traditional services," said Rob Rich, executive vice president of Telecom and Networking Research at Yankee Group. "While next generation service delivery architectures hold significant promise, the creation of application and technology vendor ecosystems by leading platform suppliers is critical to the emergence of new revenue generating services, and ultimately to improved financial performance by service providers."

Added Mike McHugh, vice president and general manager, BEA WebLogic Communications Platform, BEA Systems: "Our partners are very important to the success of BEA Telecom offerings in the marketplace -- together we can bring optimal choice and flexibility to our customers. BEA is leveraging its position as the leading supplier to the industry of application server and transaction processing technologies for use in service delivery platforms (SDP), as well as in the operational support system and billing support system (OSS/BSS) domain, to become the leading network services infrastructure vendor. The BEA WebLogic Communications Platform product suite, that includes the BEA WebLogic SIP Server(TM) and the BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper(TM), as well as our WebLogic Service Delivery solution, coupled with the industry leading, carrier class products and services of our partners, present the best solution for communication service providers today."

BEA Assembles Industry Ecosystem for IT and Telecom Network Convergence

Based on telecommunications and Internet technologies, next-generation service delivery architectures address the fundamental challenge of connectivity across telecom network domains, and lay the foundation for helping communications service providers to deliver innovative services more quickly and cost effectively. To help drive the transition to next-generation networks, BEA is working with numerous new and existing strategic partners, systems integrators and application independent software vendors chosen because of their leadership positions and unique offerings within the telecom market. By joining with BEA, these companies can now leverage BEA carrier-grade service infrastructure technology as well as its market breadth and industry reach.

Intel and BEA have recently completed a benchmark that demonstrates the scalability and price-performance leadership of WebLogic SIP Server running on Intel hardware (see BEA Announces Telecom Network Performance Breakthrough Using BEA WebLogic SIP Server and Latest Pentium Architecture, 9/27/05). The two companies are engaged in defining a systematic set of benchmarks that will help establish clear, measurable, and quantifiable metrics to calibrate a variety of infrastructure components in the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture, including for example, the SIP application server. Such a standardized set of benchmarks will make it easier for telecom operators to compare and contrast various vendor offerings, judge compliance with various industry standards, and more effectively dimension their systems for anticipated levels of load.

In addition to Intel, BEA is also working with systems integrators including long-time strategic partner HP, along with Digital X, InCode, Infosys Technologies, Mahindra British Telecom (MBT), TietoEnator and Turnberry Solutions, Inc. Application independent software vendors with whom BEA is partnering include Intervoice, IP Unity, Net4Call, SandCherry and TietoEnator. BEA is also working with Intel and technology partners Acme Packet, AePONA, AudioCodes, Brooktrout Technology, Convedia, Foundry Networks, IP Unity, ILOG, IONA, MySQL, and Wily Technology. Together with BEA, these companies can help communications service providers increase revenue by more readily capitalizing on next-generation service delivery opportunities. These companies are in the process of undergoing rigorous testing and will be certified on the BEA WebLogic Communications Platform products. This joint interoperability creates sustainable business value for customers and broadens the number of partners available to assist them with integrating and building applications on BEA WebLogic Communications Platform.
