Bastian Solutions to Host Free Webinar on Warehouse Control Systems

(Louisville, KY) - Bastian Solutions, a global material handling systems integrator, will host a free webinar on November 15, 2012, titled "The Five Pillars of Next Generation Warehouse Control Systems."

Presenters will share insights on the modern warehouse control system (WCS), and registrants will learn the main components of a WCS as well as how the WCS has advanced beyond its original functionality.

"The warehouse control system has evolved significantly over time," said Damir Kantardzic, president of Bastian Software, a division of Bastian Solutions. "Purchasers need to know exactly what these systems can do and the important features a modern WCS should contain."

A WCS is designed to control real-time events in warehouses and distribution centers and serves as a bridge between other systems such as a host system, ERP, or warehouse management system (WMS).

"However, the WCS can now handle many functions traditionally executed by a WMS," Kantardzic said. "This flexibility has made the modern incarnation of the WCS much more adaptable."

In the past, a WMS administered the planning and managed inventory, while the WCS directed order fulfillment technology and material handling taking place throughout the system. Though this can still be the case, the design of a modern WCS can include those same WMS functionalities.

"For many customers, this can mean implementation of a WCS without a WMS," Kantardzic said.

The 30-minute webinar will outline the WCS's place in an automated warehouse and demonstrate how it has grown to include features traditionally part of a warehouse management system. Participants will also have an opportunity to pose questions during a short question and answer period directly after the presentation.
