Basler gains new segment on the flat screen market with a major contract
Ahrensburg, 27 June 2006 - Basler AG - a leading specialist in Vision Technology - was today awarded a multi-million Euro contract for inspection systems by AU Optronics - one of the world's three biggest vendors of flat screen modules in Taiwan. These systems inspect the quality of color filters in flat screen glass. Thin layers of color filters in the glass are essential for ensuring proper on-screen color display. This is now the second time that Basler has won the day against the market leader from Japan with its recently rolled-out new product line for color filter inspection. The contract went to Basler for the superior concept of its inspection systems.
The major new contract represents a strategically important milestone for Basler on its way to becoming the market leader for inspection systems for the flat screen industry. In April Basler already announced a major new contract for inspection systems for so-called polarisation foils which, like color filters, are essential components of flat screen displays. Last week this system passed the acceptance test successfully. What's more, with its exclusive technology partnership agreement with the world's leading producers of flat screen glass, Basler has installed more than 70 inspection systems which gives it a market share of approx. 60% in this segment.
