BASF Names Gusmer Enterprises, Inc. as Distributor for Divergan® PVPP Filter Aids

FLORHAM PARK, NJ, August 19, 2009 -- BASF Corporation has entered into an expanded agreement with Gusmer Enterprises, Inc., making Gusmer an authorized distributor for Divergan® F and Divergan® RS PVPP filter aids for the beer industry.

Gusmer Enterprises, Inc. will be a BASF distributor to market Divergan PVPP products to the beer industry in the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Caribbean. Currently, it distributes Divergan products to the wine industry in the United States and Canada.

"We extended our relationship with Gusmer Enterprises, Inc. in order to strengthen BASF's position in the brewing industry in North America," said Andrew Fratianni, Senior Technical Sales Representative for Beverage Processing Polymers at BASF in North America. "In addition, brewers will benefit from the combination of BASF's specialization in PVPP production and Gusmer Enterprises' well-developed, sales and marketing capabilities."

Divergan was patented by BASF in 1974. These products are composed of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVPP), which selectively adsorbs the polyphenols that cause turbidity and shorten the shelf-life of beer. By removing these polyphenols, the occurrence of turbidity is reduced and shelf-life is greatly improved. Divergan products are proven beverage processing aids for breweries. By removing phenols, a beer's delicate flavor and color can be preserved. Divergan products should be considered by brewers looking to expand their markets to ensure their beer stays fresh for a longer period of time.

"Gusmer Enterprises specializes in technical solutions for beer processing," said Craig Panasy, Gusmer's Director of Sales and Marketing for Brewing. "We are pleased to work with BASF to offer these products to our customers."
