Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport Deploys Enterasys Convergence Solution

ANDOVER, Mass., April 30 -- Enterasys Networks®, the Secure Networks Company(TM), today announced that Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi Airport has deployed more than 12,000 Enterasys Power-over-Ethernet connections to support airport operations through converged voice, video and data communications. The information and communication technology network is controlled by TOT Public Company Limited (formerly known as Telephone Organization of Thailand) and was planned, designed and implemented by SAMART TELCOMS PLC, a key Enterasys partner in Southeast Asia.

One of the largest logistical operations in global aviation history, the new Bangkok International Airport is capable of handling 45 million passengers and 3 million tons of cargo per year on its way to becoming Southeast Asia's regional cargo hub. Enterasys Matrix® and SecureStack switches and routers and RoamAbout® wireless technology ensure the integrity and performance of the triple-play applications in the airport's infrastructure. A Lucent NGN softswitch architecture delivers IP telephony to more than 40,000 users.

"This implementation is a perfect example of how Enterasys Secure Networks solutions can discover, classify, prioritize and secure voice and video traffic over data networks," said Mike Fabiaschi, president and CEO of Enterasys Networks. "I am proud that our partnership with SAMART TELCOMS and TOT has delivered such an advanced communications infrastructure to support commerce and tourism in Thailand."

Pornchai Krivichian, vice president for SAMART TELCOMS, said: "This is one of the largest projects in our company's history. We needed a networking solutions partner who could deliver on their promises -- and that is exactly what Enterasys did. SAMART TELCOMS has found the Enterasys technology to be very reliable and we appreciate the highly responsive support we receive from the local Enterasys team in Thailand."

Long-term airport expansion plans - with a combined capacity capable of handling up to 100 million passengers and 6.4 million tons of cargo a year - are on the drawing board. The second phase of airport expansion, involving the construction of a satellite building south of the main terminal, is expected to begin 3 to 5 years after the completion of the first main terminal. Future collaboration between Enterasys, SAMART TELCOMS and TOT will focus on prediction, prevention and automated response to IT security threats through the deployment of Dragon IDS/IPS technology.
