Applied Precision Scientific Team to Present 3D-SIM Paper at BiOS in San Francisco

ISSAQUAH, Wash., Jan. 19, 2011 - Applied Precision is pleased to announce that Paul Goodwin, director of advanced applications, and William Dougherty, senior scientist, have been chosen to present a paper on Three-Dimensional Structured Illumination Microscopy at BiOS SPIE Photonics West.

Three-dimensional structured illumination (3D-SIM) is a super-resolution imaging technique that doubles the lateral and axial resolution, providing an eight-fold improvement in volumetric resolution compared to standard microscopy systems. This revolutionary gain in resolution allows researchers to see biological structures with greater detail and clarity than previously possible.

3D-SIM has been shown to be highly adaptable for conventional fluorescent dyes in fixed specimen imaging. The new developments being presented at the BiOS meeting will outline breakthroughs towards utilizing 3D-SIM for live cell super-resolution imaging.

"We were both incredibly honored to have been chosen to present our work," says Goodwin. "Bill and I are looking forward to showcasing this particular area of interest to colleagues in our field at BiOS."

The 3D-SIM presentation will be part of Conference 7905 Session Eight titled "Nanoscopy and Super-resolution Microscopy III." The session begins at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 and will end at approximately 5:50 p.m.

Applied Precision is an industry leader in high-resolution and super-resolution imaging. The DeltaVision OMX product family represents a ground-breaking, super-resolution imaging system that offers widefield deconvolution, 3D-SIM and TIRF localization imaging on a single platform. Applied Precision has sold and installed OMX systems in life science markets worldwide.

Applied Precision's products will be showcased in booth 8925 at BiOS SPIE Photonics West at The Moscone Center in San Francisco, Jan. 22-23.
