Aperture Technologies Acquires the Advantage Group (TAG)

o Acquisition brings only real-time, vendor-neutral data center management solution to market that meets the most challenging and complex data center issues related to power, cooling, and environmental management

STAMFORD, Conn., July 16 /-- Aperture Technologies Inc., the leading global provider of software for managing the physical infrastructure of data centers, has acquired The Advantage Group (TAG), a leading provider of infrastructure monitoring solutions, for an undisclosed sum.

The combination of the two companies' technologies provides the most advanced and holistic data center management solution, combining comprehensive planning, operational management, and intelligent alarm processing and analysis from real-time monitoring.

The integration of Aperture VISTA, a software solution that manages the physical infrastructure of the data center, with The Advantage Group's Enterprise product enables proactive capacity management of critical infrastructure resources. While VISTA helps plan and manage changes to the data center infrastructure, TAG Enterprise monitors the actual environment through automated processes, and allows for vendor-independent real-time monitoring of key infrastructure components with intelligent alarm processing and event logging.

TAG Enterprise's real-time monitoring capabilities enable data center managers to better understand what is happening in the data center's physical environment. TAG Enterprise enables data center management to respond to variations in the critical operating characteristics of data center equipment that can lead to power outages, cooling insufficiencies (hotspots), and other potentially damaging situations.

These capabilities enhance Aperture VISTA's state-of-the-art power modeling capabilities. The combination delivers a deep understanding of the power capacities at every point in the power distribution system in the data center, enabling data center managers to anticipate and deliver, at the lowest cost, the infrastructure demanded by today's power-hungry equipment and increasingly complex business applications.

"It is essential that organizations have data center management solutions that let them accurately plan and manage increasingly complex data centers, while controlling costs and meeting the demands of their business," said Bill Clifford, chairman and CEO of Aperture Technologies. "This strategic acquisition allows us to provide our customers with the only complete, end-to-end software solution that supports every aspect of data center management; from planning for new equipment and assessing its impact on the data center infrastructure, through the entire lifecycle of provisioning, installation, management, and decommissioning of physical assets."

Clifford added, "We are extremely pleased with the completion of this acquisition as well as with the addition of Dave Cole, President of Real Time Systems for Aperture. Dave's experience and knowledge of the practical application of real time monitoring will be a valuable asset in shaping the product evolution of both VISTA and Enterprise."

David Cole, president and senior software architect of The Advantage Group, stated, "Joining forces allows us to deliver a unique product with key differentiators such as ongoing real-time interaction with all of the equipment housed in the data center facility. It will also deliver tangible cost savings to customers."

Cole added, "As a result of this acquisition, customers will now be able to cross-check power usage profiles against a plan to ensure equipment is operating as expected. If it is not, the plan can be readjusted. The state of the art monitoring that we can provide will deliver a true competitive advantage to our customers by allowing them to manage their data centers for maximum operational and cost efficiency."

Benefits

The combined functionality of Aperture VISTA and TAG Enterprise enable a holistic approach to data center management, while supporting the three primary Data Center Management requirements 1) Operational Control of the people and processes that run the data center, 2) Planning and Management of data center resources, and, 3) Active Monitoring of the equipment housed in the data center facility. Each of these three pillars of Data Center Management reinforces the others in the following ways:

Active Monitoring: Reinforces data center Planning and Management by verifying that plans are executed properly and services are meeting business demands in an economically efficient manner. Tracking actual usage trends against limits and thresholds allows users to verify that resources are adequate or plans for additional resources and infrastructure are required. Active Monitoring of equipment also reinforces Operational Control by verifying that all processes are executed as designed.

Planning and Management: Reinforces Active Monitoring by putting measurements into context and identifying potential anomalies which could result in disruptions in service. Planning and Management also reinforces Operational Control by providing strategic information and the understanding required to optimize processes over time. Operational Process Control is responsible for executing plans efficiently and accurately by the data center management staff.

Operational Control: Reinforces Active Monitoring by ensuring that the monitoring regime is established and that changes in the data center which may require changes to the monitoring processes are executed properly.
