Anixter is Hosting ONVIF Developer's Plugfest

GLENVIEW, Ill., Sept. 7 -- Anixter is lending its facilities to the Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF) for a developer's Plugfest, an engineers-only event that determines the interoperability of IP-based video products from member manufacturers for the physical security market. As the only distributor that is a member of the ONVIF, Anixter continues its role as an industry leader to ensure customers receive products that are compliant and meet industry standards.

At the event, which is being held at Anixter's Infrastructure Solutions Lab located at its worldwide corporate headquarters in Glenview, Illinois, manufacturer representatives are testing the integration of IP cameras and VMS software at the logical and protocol layers. A software developer's kit is available to integrate the cameras, which allows the participants to test their products' implementations of ONVIF's core specification 1.02. Participants are evaluating the programming language and testing it against different video codecs such as H.264 and MJEPG.

"As a member of ONVIF, Anixter is committed to maintaining a leadership role in the standardization of network video products in the security market," said Pete Lockhart, Anixter's Vice President of Emerging Technologies and a member of ONVIF's Technical Services Committee. "The Anixter-hosted Plugfest ensures products meet the design and performance specifications required to ensure interoperability of physical security devices."

This is the first ONVIF developer's Plugfest to be held in the U.S. The first Plugfest took place in Tokyo, Japan, and the second in Stuttgart, Germany. Anixter expects 18 manufacturer representatives to attend the three-day event. The three-day event starts September 7 and groups members together in classes based on experience.

Anixter is a contributing member of ONVIF and one of the original five companies that was voted to be a member of the Technical Services Committee Standards group, which defines, creates and maintains a verification and self-certification process for the network functional entities as defined by ONVIF technical specifications. ONVIF is currently expanding its scope to include physical access control. ONVIF's main goal is to cover the basic access control functionalities that will enable interoperable solutions for physical access control systems provided by different manufacturers under the ONVIF specification.
