Ames Bolsters Its Design Solutions Center for Customized Application Solutions

Distinguished Capabilities Cover Wide Range of Markets

Ames Corporation, a leading manufacturer of high-quality elastomeric molded components, dispensed gaskets and protective coatings, has added three engineers to the technical staff of its Design Solutions Center. Drawing on Ames' extensive experience in custom elastomer compounding for molding, dispensed gaskets, and liquid coatings, and utilizing the company's full range of laboratory-scale processing capabilities, Ames develops prototype products to satisfy the most demanding customer applications.

Chuck Roberts, CEO & President, described the importance of these additions. "Our Design Solutions Center is an integral part of our Technical Organization and where we evaluate and consider options for product opportunities presented to us by our customers. The center utilizes the talents of our Material Scientists and Engineers who are tasked with the responsibility of presenting our customers with unique solutions to a problem or for a new product they are attempting to launch. Adding to this group greatly enhances our ability to quickly determine customer needs and to devise an effective solution which meets their technical and commercial requirements."

Once a customer is presented with and accepts an idea, the Technical Team goes to work with the target material set and material applications technology and begins the fabrication of prototype products for Ames' customers to evaluate. Sometimes this is an iterative process, through which the needs for new materials and material applications technologies are identified and appropriate adjustments are made to advance the project and satisfy customers. Ames develops prototype products to satisfy the most demanding customer applications, and upon customer approval, can expand the prototype process for full-scale production.

Ames' Design Solutions Center also constantly examines ways to improve the performance, durability and cost-effectiveness of existing products. Ames applies the company's considerable engineering and elastomer processing expertise (including Six Sigma techniques) to identify performance improvement and cost reduction opportunities. A recent example of this is the company's development of Dent Resistant Coating (DRC) Technology for fuser rollers for the printer and copier market. Ames' ability to take materials and process developments from one product development effort to another is a key ingredient in Ames becoming a provider of elastomeric design solutions to an ever-growing list of markets and customers.

With these additions to its Design Solutions Center, Ames is even better positioned to offer customers assistance with materials selection, product design and optimum process selection.
