AMCA International Conducts Certified Ratings Program

Press Release Summary:

Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) International will host three-hour engineering seminars at NEA headquarters in Singapore Dec. 4 and other at Taylor’s University in Malaysia Dec. 5. Michael Ivanovich was a guest speaker for the seminars. The seminars attracted more than 130 engineers to learn about AMCA and fan-system engineering. The seminar at Malaysia features Amy Smith, PhD, senior director at Colorado State University who described about how engineers can learn more effectively using techniques based on latest research in brain science.

AMCA International Presents Fan-System Seminars in Singapore, Malaysia

AMCA International Senior Director of Global Affairs Michael Ivanovich talks fan energy index during an engineering seminar at National Environment Agency headquarters in Singapore Dec. 4.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., December 19, 2018—Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) International Senior Director of Global Affairs Michael Ivanovich was guest speaker for two three-hour engineering seminars in Southeast Asia recently—one hosted by the National Environment Agency (NEA) at NEA headquarters in Singapore Dec. 4 and the other hosted by ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter at Taylor’s University in Malaysia Dec. 5.

At both seminars, Ivanovich began by providing an introduction to AMCA International, AMCA’s Certified Ratings Program, and AMCA’s resources for engineers. Then, he updated the audience on near-future changes to international standards by AMCA, ASHRAE, and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). He concluded by providing an in-depth look at new efficiency metric fan energy index (FEI) and explaining how FEI can be used by engineers to right-size fans, reducing energy waste and improving service life and acoustics.

“NEA and ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter were excellent hosts—they each attracted more than 130 engineers eager to learn about AMCA and fan-system engineering,” Ivanovich said. “It was rewarding to meet AMCA members at the events and ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter leadership and student-branch members at Taylor’s University.”

The seminar in Malaysia also featured Amy Smith, PhD, senior director of Colorado State University (CSU) Online, who described how engineers can learn more effectively using techniques based on the latest research in brain science.

“By applying multiple senses while reading and learning, brain neurons fire in pairs, making learning faster and retention longer,” Smith, who has many years of experience teaching soft skills to engineers, said. “Engineers are a great audience for teaching how to learn—their jobs depend on keeping up with technology, practice, codes, standards, and more.”

Ivanovich and Madam Goh Swee Lee, executive director, Asia AMCA, met with NEA and ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter representatives to discuss the use of FEI in future fan-efficiency regulations in their respective countries.

Additionally, Ivanovich, Goh, Smith, and Preston Koh, marketing director, Asia AMCA, met with representatives of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) to discuss partnering on engineering education programs. Capping off the trip, Ivanovich and Smith toured the Asia AMCA testing laboratory in Johor, Malaysia.
