Airgo Sustains Its Rapid Growth in Taiwan With New Hsin Chu Office

HSIN CHU, Taiwan, Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- To meet growing worldwide demand for its True MIMO(TM) wireless chipsets, Airgo Networks, Inc., pioneer and world leader in high performance wireless technology, today announced plans to triple the size of its Taiwan footprint, opening a new facility in Hsin Chu. The new space will allow Airgo to increase its technical support and design staff both in Taiwan and throughout Asia, to better serve customers in the region.

Airgo's new development facility will enable the company to accommodate expected headcount expansion, provide more integrated assistance to its ODM and OEM customers in the region by housing the company's sales, R&D and operations groups in a central facility in the heart of Research Park.

"In short order, demand for Airgo's True MIMO technology has dramatically increased in the PC OEM, retail, enterprise and consumer electronics markets. To continue the pace and secure its competitive position worldwide, Airgo understands the importance of its infrastructure investment in Taiwan," said Bob Twomey, vice president of sales at Airgo Networks. "And as the industry moves toward ratification of the 802.11n standard, new wireless devices and applications will come to market and spur even more demand for True MIMO chipsets. The expansion of the company's facility in Taiwan will support that growth."

Recent research from Strategy Analytics supports Airgo's expansion venture. The consultancy foresees a major transition from current Wi-Fi technologies to next-generation MIMO and 802.11n. It predicts demand for devices incorporating such technologies will reach 134 million units by 2010. In addition, the NPD Group found that since the launch of Airgo's Gen3 True MIMO chipsets, Airgo's market share in routers has risen to 17.4% -- more than doubling in the first quarter of 2006.

About Airgo True MIMO

Products featuring Airgo True MIMO Gen3 are fully 802.11a/b/g compatible, are Wi-Fi certified, and can be used with any other Wi-Fi certified 802.11 device on a network. Airgo's third generation True MIMO chipset supports TCP/IP networking throughput of more than 140Mbps with uncompressed traffic, surpassing the performance of wired 100BaseT Ethernet. In real-world third party testing, Airgo's Gen 3 True MIMO products are proven to substantially outperform any other chipset offering in the Wi-Fi market, with faster speed, longer range and higher reliability. In addition, Airgo's True MIMO Gen3 chipset features three integrated radios, resulting in a reduction in the overall Bill of Material cost and a reduction in power consumption.

About Airgo Networks, Inc.

The founders of Airgo Networks have pioneered a wireless communication technique known as Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). A breakthrough in wireless, MIMO OFDM has been adopted as the foundation for defining the new IEEE 802.11n standard for next generation Wi-Fi® Airgo is first-to-market with 802.11a/b/g-compliant MIMO enhanced chipset, software and reference design solutions. Now in its third generation, Airgo's True MIMO(TM) technology has surpassed the speed of wireline connections, enabling the most bandwidth-intensive applications and eliminating the need for wires at home, at work, and in public places. Founded in January 2001, the company is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, USA.
