AERT Announces Facilities Update

SPRINGDALE, Ark.-- Sept. 22, 2006--Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:AERT) announced today that full startup of the Company's new Springdale South manufacturing facility has been delayed until November 1, 2006. Soon after the initial line startup in August, problems arose due to defective machinery supplied by two vendors. The defective equipment has since been removed and replaced under warranty, with the last replacement parts delivered this week. Reinstallation will take approximately two weeks and then line recalibration can begin.
The Springdale South line was previously scheduled for full startup in September, allowing other manufacturing lines to be taken down for heavy maintenance and refurbishing. In order to maintain production plans related to the introduction of several new product upgrades during the fourth quarter, the Company decided to proceed with the maintenance procedures at both manufacturing facilities at the expense of sales in the third quarter, which will end September 30. Gross unaudited quarterly sales will be released on October 2.
Despite the third quarter startup and upgrade challenges, the Company believes it has adequate inventory to satisfy existing customer demand as it ramps up to introduce its expanded product lines for the 2007 decking season.
