Aculight Corporation Hires Two New Senior Scientists

Bothell, Wash., March 1: Aculight Corporation, a leading developer of innovative laser technologies, today announced it has hired two new scientists. Dr. Jonathon Wells has joined the company as Biomedical Liaison/Senior Scientist to support the company's medical laser products. Dr. Pratheepan Madasamy has joined as Senior Scientist to support their high-power fiber laser products.

"We're pleased to welcome our new senior scientists to Aculight," said Mark Bendett, Aculight director of product development. "Dr. Wells was one of the lead researchers in infrared nerve stimulation at Vanderbilt University-our partner in developing the technology behind the Capella(TM) product line. His expertise significantly enhances our ability to support our current nerve stimulators and allows us to explore a multitude of new applications. This move reinforces our dedication to the research and clinical medical markets."

Said Rob Afzal, Aculight director of technology development, "Dr. Pratheepan Madasamy brings to Aculight tremendous experience in developing high-peak-power pulsed fiber laser systems. Welcoming him to Aculight is a testament to our firm commitment to the growing business of high-power fiber laser products."

Jonathon Wells joins Aculight from Vanderbilt University, where he earned his Ph.D, M.S. and B.E. degrees in biomedical engineering. At Vanderbilt, Wells helped develop infrared nerve stimulation (INS) methods and technology. This included theorizing device design, patent development, and conducting initial clinical trials. He has also been a consultant to Aculight on its INS products, potential applications and employee education. Wells has been published in numerous journals and magazines, including Optics Letters, Journal of Biomedical Optics, Journal of Neuroscience Methods and Biophotonics International.

Pratheepan Madasamy comes to Aculight from Fibertek, Inc., where he was a senior laser scientist developing high-peak-power Ytterbium-doped pulsed fiber amplifier systems. Prior to Fibertek, Madasamy was a senior research scientist at Directed Energy Solutions and a research associate at the Optical Sciences Center at the University of Arizona. Madasamy holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in optical sciences from the University of Arizona, and a B.E. in electronics and communications from Anna University (Chennai, India). He has been published in numerous journals, including Optics Letters, Applied Physics Letters, Optical Engineering and the Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids.
