Active Power Announces Milestone Achievements for Award-Winning CoolAir Product

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 7-- Active Power, Inc. (NASDAQ:ACPW), inventor and manufacturer of the most efficient and reliable power systems available in the market today announced several milestone achievements for its innovative CoolAir product line.

The first announcement relates to the patents on the technology supporting the CoolAir products. The inventor and Active Power Chairman, Joe Pinkerton, was issued US Patent 7,086,231 in early August of this year, for the Thermal and Compressed Air Storage (TACAS) system that is the integral technology utilized in this innovative and ground-breaking product. "CoolAir is the first and only product of its kind that can simultaneously deliver reliable backup power and cooling into a data center environment," said Joe Pinkerton, Chairman of Active Power, "thus addressing two of the most pressing issues facing data center managers today."

The company also reports that it received CE approval in late September, which will enable the company to begin distribution of the CoolAir DC product in the European Union. CE approval refers to the European EMC Directive and is required for every piece of electronic equipment manufactured or imported into Europe. "We believe our CoolAir backup power solution is quite unique in the marketplace. For one easy annual fee a client receives a turnkey, hassle- free, environmentally-friendly backup power and cooling system. All maintenance and support is included, and we handle everything from start up to annual system checks. I do not believe any other UPS company has a competing service," said Ian Bitterlin, Vice President Sales & Service for the company's EMEA markets.

The commercial applications for the product are broad; the system provides up to 85 kW with a runtime of up to 15 minutes at full load. Most recently, an order for a CoolAir UPS solution in excess of $75,000 was received from a Fortune 100 pharmaceutical company with various environmental initiatives. The 80kVA CoolAir UPS solution will be used to back up critical equipment within its R&D Labs.

"The small-to-medium data center is the perfect application for CoolAir," said Jim Clishem, President and CEO of Active Power. "Our current system placements include banks, universities, and pharmaceutical, utility, and large industrial operators for a range of applications." The company states that systems have been placed in the United States, Africa, Europe and Latin America. "We are thrilled with our initial placements of CoolAir and the four industry acknowledgements for technology innovation we have received over the past year," said Clishem.
