ACS Awarded New Regional Transit Contract in Los Angeles

DALLAS, June 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (NYSE:ACS), a premier provider of business process outsourcing and information technology solutions, announced today that it has signed a major contract with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) to implement and operate a regional transit smart card service center. The contract is for five-years valued at more than $31.5 million with two, two-year options and if exercised, will bring the total contract value to $60 million.

Metro is introducing a regional fare initiative that will enable riders to use a single smart card for transit fare payments on all regional buses and rail systems in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. In support of this initiative, ACS will implement and operate the Regional Transit Access Pass (TAP) service center, providing services such as cardholder registration, card inventory and distribution, and point-of-sale network management. Customer care will be provided through a website, interactive voice response phone system, live customer service representatives, mail, and fax.

In addition to Metro, the other participating County transit agencies include: Foothill Transit; Montebello Municipal Bus Lines; Torrance Transit; Santa Clarita Transit; Antelope Valley Transit; Culver City Bus; Norwalk Transit; MetroLink; LA DOT; Gardena Municipal Bus Lines, and Long Beach Transit. Additional transportation agencies are expected to join the program in the future.

"Los Angeles County transit riders have been waiting a long time for a convenient, safe, and easy way to travel seamlessly in the region and TAP offers this simplicity," said Roger Snoble, CEO of Los Angeles Metro. "All pass products and cash will be captured on one card so that our patrons won't need to worry about riding different operators or modes." Looking at the opportunity this presents to Metro and 11 other Municipal Operator partners, Snoble added, "We are confident that ACS brings solid experience handling customer service calls here in Los Angeles, as well as across the country, and we are looking ahead to a successful project implementation next year."

"In this ever-changing environment, bus and rail services are becoming a more attractive transportation alternative and ACS is proud to be working with LA Metro to ensure that the TAP card provides a convenient and seamless way to pay for these services," said Tom Burlin, Group President of ACS Government Solutions. "We look forward to working with the many different transit agencies in Los Angeles County to ensure that TAP cards are readily available and that the best possible customer service is provided to those cardholders."
