ABP Induction will Build the Largest Sponge Iron Melting Furnace in India

NALWA STEEL AND POWER (a group company of JINDAL STEEL AND POWER LIMITED) has released an order to ABP Induction Germany/India for a sponge iron melt shop of 700 tons per day for their NALWA plant, one of the largest sponge iron melting furnace in India as well as in the world.
JSPL, the flagship company of Late Shri O.P. Jindal's US $ 15 billion diversified JINDAL-group, is one of India's major steel producers with a significant presence in sectors like Steel, Mining, Power Generation and Infrastructure.
With this plant, melts of 85% sponge iron at a tapping temperature of 1640 °C are produced and the liquid metal is transfered to 32/38 tones LRF for refining to produce quality steel.
"The major deciding factor for the decision in ABP's favour was its advanced automation, high energy melt process, ABP's ECOTOP® system and the automated slag remover which reduced the number of operating personal" - Mr. P. S Rana (ED-Nalwa) highlighted.
"30 tones from an induction furnace with a tap-to-tap time of 120 minutes for 85 % sponge - is a tremendous achievement and requires a lot of automation" - Dr. Wolfgang Andree pointed out.
Because of the size of the equipment NALWA had high demands for the reliability of the furnace, maximized energy efficiency and the degree of Automation, ABP Induction was able to convince NALWA on these points.
Important details that contributed to the award of the contract were the design of the IFM furnace, the exhaust concept with the ABP ECOTOP® system, the parallel TWIN-POWER® converter specially designed for high performance of 16 MW, automated slag remover and ABP's world class LRF technology with digital electrode regulation.
With this order ABP Induction is clearly ahead of competitors in steel melting with induction furnaces.
Completion of the project phase - is scheduled for September -2012 and consists of the following units:
2 x IFM 9 / 30 t, 16 MW TWIN-POWER®
2 x LRF 32/ 38 t, 7.2 MVA
