ESAB And Union Announce Tentative Contract Agreement

Hanover, PA - Representatives for ESAB and UAW Local 1968, the labor union representing the company's workers who had been on strike since March 27, 2006, announced today that they had reached a tentative contract and an agreement to resolve all strike-related issues. The union stated that it hoped to present the tentative agreement to its members for a ratification vote within the next seven to ten days. Both the company and the union anticipate that striking employees could begin returning to work as soon as early November.

Bob Kahlbaugh, the president of local 1968 stated, "After over six months of being on strike, the union bargaining committee has worked very, very hard to reach a tentative agreement with the company. John Frederick, ESAB's Manager of Human Resources, praised the professionalism of the union negotiators and he added, "The tentative agreement was the product of lengthy negotiations with give and take by both parties. We're very pleased that this dispute is behind us and that all of us can return our focus to meeting the needs of our customers."

The parties will not disclose the specifics of the tentative agreement until the union members have had a chance to review the tentative contract.
