2015 Manufacturing Day

Manufacturing Day has become a national phenomenon in Florida and throughout the rest of the country. Hundreds and now thousands of manufacturers have been opening their doors to students and the public for the last few years. Polygon Solutions Inc. of Fort Myers, FL has participated in the event since its inception and has continued to draw in students to teach them more about manufacturing.

The main focuses of Manufacturing Day include exposing young people to the high tech and well-paying jobs available today, and to help dispel the notion that manufacturing is and antiquated or dingy industry. Modern CNC machines and innovative technology available at Polygon Solutions help students to see the future first hand. Seeing other young people who have learned how to operate the machines right out of high school and vocational school also exposes them to additional career paths.

Polygon has plenty of partners in the effort. Von Baron Motorsports and Gator Boards local facilities were also part of the tour and contributed prizes and giveaways for the students. Regional partnerships, such as the Southwest Regional Manufacturers Association (SRMA) and national memberships with the Precision Machined Product Association (PMPA) were also key for establishing the presentations and information needed to pass on to attendees.

Polygon Solutions manufactures award winning cutting tools called rotary broaches which are used to make precise forms in metal products using CNC machines. Students were shown the many products Polygon makes and the jobs available for making those tools. Custom made motorcycles, sidecars and high end wake boards were also part of the tour.

Polygon Solutions once again partnered with Lee Virtual School in Fort Myers, FL, and continues to support high school and college age students in their efforts to learn more about manufacturing. A contest was held at the end of the tour, and winners will be announced at Lee Virtual School. Polygon Solutions was established in Fort Myers in 2010.
