EMCORE Introduces New Product Line of Directly Modulated 1550nm Transmitters for Video over HFC and FTTx Networks

SOMERSET, N.J., March 3 /-- EMCORE Corporation (NASDAQ:EMKR), a leading provider of compound semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the broadband, fiber optic, satellite, and wireless communications markets, announced the introduction of the 755MM product line of directly modulated 1550nm Transmitters. The 755MM product line features EMCORE's newly designed 19-inch rack mountable 1550nm transmitters for video transmission over hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) and video overlay FTTx networks. This new platform of directly modulated video transmitters will reduce system costs within current CATV HFC and FTTx networks, while offering performance similar to that of externally modulated systems.

EMCORE has leveraged its proprietary external cavity laser technology, along with its capabilities as a vertically integrated manufacturer, to create a best-in-class transmitter platform. EMCORE's external cavity lasers offer highly linear performance and spectral purity unmatched in the industry. World-renowned pre-distortion circuitry further enhances performance of these lasers making them ideal for radio frequency (RF) video transmission. EMCORE's enhanced optical spectrum reshaping technology provides superior SBS (Stimulated Brillouin Scattering) performance up to 23 dBm. These proprietary technologies have been developed into a high performance transmitter platform designed for CATV HFC networks and video overlay applications. This advanced technology is housed in a 19-inch transmitter enclosure featuring redundant power supplies and SNMP. Distances of up to 65+km links (inclusive) are attainable with this platform while maintaining noise and distortion performance comparable with externally modulated transmitters.

The 755MM product line offers significant technical advantages over conventional externally modulated solutions such as higher density and lower power consumption. "We believe the introduction of the 755MM product line will provide system designers a more competitive alternative to existing technology available today," Dr. John Iannelli, Senior Director of Engineering for EMCORE's Ortel division commented. "As the industry leader, EMCORE continues to develop advanced technological solutions for the CATV HFC and FTTx markets. EMCORE's scale, vertical integration and capabilities have enabled the development of this disruptive technology."

EMCORE's directly modulated product line will be on display at the OFC/NFOEC conference in Anaheim, CA on March 6-8, 2006. The full product family will be available in the third quarter of 2006.
