Transmit and Receive Pair optimize 10GBASE LRM performance.
Press Release Summary:
Apr 06, 2006 - Designed to optimize performance of 10GBASE LRM modules, 1310 TOSA and linear ROSA 10Gbps transmit and receive pair exhibit typ OMA sensitivity of -17 dBm. LRM ROSA includes 10Gbps InP PIN photo-detector, transimpedance amplifier, and LC or SC optical barrel. ROSA has differential output and remains linear over input power range defined in LRM standard. Product is optimized to work with electronic dispersion compensation ICs to meet LRM module linear requirements.

EMCORE Announces 10GBASE LRM ROSA and TOSA Components
Press release date: Mar 08, 2006
Having shipped over 30,000 LX4 XENPAK and X2 modules, EMCORE is the leading provider of LX4 modules for 10G links over 300m reach of multimode fiber. This new product offering solidifies EMCORE's base in the 10G over multimode fiber application by providing key components for LRM modules. LRM is an emerging technology that provides 220m links over multimode fiber as defined by the IEEE 802.3aq standard. LRM modules are expected to start sampling in the second half of 2006.
The LRM ROSA includes a 10Gbps InP PIN photo-detector, transimpedance amplifier (TIA), and an LC or SC optical barrel to form an optical to electrical interface from fiber to the module circuit board. The ROSA has differential output and remains linear over the input power range defined in the LRM standard. With a typical OMA sensitivity of -17 dBm, the product is optimized to work with EDC (Electronic Dispersion Compensation) ICs to meet the linear requirements of LRM modules.
"Linearity of a ROSA is a critical component to implementation of LRM modules, as EDC relies on a linear representation of the optical signal to effectively compensate for the dispersion caused by multimode fiber," said Babak Nabili, director of marketing at Scintera Networks. "EMCORE's latest offerings are a welcome addition to the LRM ecosystem, and will further accelerate the availability of these cost-effective modules in the Enterprise market."
According to CIR, a market research and consulting firm, in its report entitled, The Market for 10-G and 40-G Modules and Components: 2005-2013, the market for 10Gbps ports on telecommunications and data communications equipment will grow from $2.1 billion in 2006 to $4.8 billion by 2010. This will represent growth from 221,000 ports to 1.6 million ports shipped over the same period, as 10 GbE follows earlier Ethernet technologies into its "mass market" deployment phase.
EMCORE's 10Gbps linear ROSAs are sampling today, and 10Gbps TOSA samples will be available in the second calendar quarter of 2006. These parts are fully compliant with RoHs requirements, and the 10G XMD MSA. Linear ROSAs will be on display in EMCORE's booth (Booth #1613) at the OFC/NFOEC conference in Anaheim, CA on March 7-9, 2006.
