JDSU Introduces Market's Highest-Accuracy 2.5/2.7G Jitter/Wander Test Solution

MILPITAS, Calif., May 9 /-- JDSU (Nasdaq: JDSU; TSX: JDU) today introduced the most accurate solution on the market for measuring 2.5/2.7G SONET/SDH jitter. Combining existing 2.5/2.7G optical and electrical interfaces with the new 2.5/2.7G jitter/wander feature, JDSU's ONT-506 and ONT-512 testers now provide physical layer jitter/wander testing from 155 Megabits per second (Mb/s) up to 43 Gigabits per second (Gb/s), helping address the bandwidth demands being placed on metro and long haul networks by the deployment of triple-play services.

The 2.5/2.7G jitter/wander module for the ONT-506 and ONT-512 supports the research and development, service verification testing and production needs of network equipment manufacturers, as well as the equipment verification, installation and maintenance requirements of service providers. JDSU significantly enhanced the ONT product line's intrinsic jitter performance in response to market demand for the accurate validation of very low-level jitter generation based on peak-to-peak and root mean square (RMS) jitter requirements. The enhancements reduce the need to retest marginal cases, resulting in lower costs and faster time-to-market.

Jitter and wander are disturbances in a high-speed network that affect reliability and service performance.

"Extremely accurate measurement of jitter generation is an increasingly important issue, in part because of the pressure to reduce component size and the cost associated with related design adjustments," said Bernhard Mueller, general manager for JDSU's optical transport Test and Measurement group. "With these new features, JDSU further enhances our line of jitter testers that help equipment manufacturers and network operators meet the challenges associated with the design and the deployment of high-bandwidth networks."

With the ONT family of testers, JDSU delivers a jitter test solution for SONET/SDH and OTN networks with high accuracy, repeatability and reliability that exceed the latest industry standards, including ITU-T O.172/O.173 and Telcordia GR-253. The new ITU-T O.172 Appendix VII-based calibration and verification procedure using a reference transmitter with negligible jitter provides guaranteed fixed jitter accuracy for the jitter receiver.

Technical features for the 2.5/2.7G jitter/wander module include generation and analysis of jitter/wander at 155Mb/s, 622Mb/s, 2.5Gb/s and 2.7Gb/s for SONET OC-3/12/48, SDH STM-1/4/16, and OTN OTU-1 (G.709 FEC). JDSU's 2.5/2.7G jitter/wander solution is compliant to ITU-T O.172/O.173 and provides the full set of jitter measurement capabilities -- jitter generation, automatic jitter tolerance, and automatic jitter transfer, which help during the design, manufacturing, and commissioning of SDH/SONET/OTN systems. The ITU-T O.172 Appendix VII-based calibration procedure provides a guaranteed jitter receiver accuracy -- a fixed error of 15mUI peak-to-peak and 3mUI RMS. Additional features of the product's jitter/wander capabilities include wander analysis of TIE, MTIE/TDEV (online), frequency offset and drift rate with graphs and built-in masks.
