Emerson Adds Models to Astec 1U Switcher Line for High-Density Distributed Architecture Applications

New 350W Bulk Switcher Features Power-Factor-Correction, High-Efficiency, Or-ing Diode, Standby and Auxiliary Outputs

CARLSBAD, Calif. - June 29, 2004 - Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) has added a new 48V model to its popular Astec NTS Series line of 350 Watt bulk AC-DC switching power supplies. Available with convection cooling or optional forced-air, the compact units are ideally suited for product designs using distributed power architecture. Weighing in at 8.3 watts per cubic inch, the high-density NTS358 models feature a compact 4-inch by 7-inch footprint and typically operate at 85 percent efficiency. The convection cooled models work well in 1U (1.75-inch high) rack-mount chassis or other low-profile applications.

Featuring active power factor correction to minimize input harmonic distortion, the Astec NTS358 is a compact 85-264 VAC power supply that can deliver its full rated output of 350 Watts with 30 CFM forced air or 200 Watts with convection cooling. The devices are also suited for use as AC-DC front ends for DC-DC converters in a wide variety of applications including telecommunications, networking, test and measurement, single-board computers and gigabit Ethernet devices.

A built-in Or-ing diode eliminates the need for external circuitry when using the unit in a redundant configuration. For maximum versatility, units are also available with a top cover fan designated by a CF suffix on the model number and can be set up for lengthwise or crosswise airflow, giving designers layout flexibility. The device also features a 12V 1A auxiliary output and 5V at 2A standby output as well as overload, over-voltage and thermal protection.

The Astec NTS358 models include a built-in Class B EMI filter, remote sense, remote inhibit and single-wire parallel on the primary output that enables current-sharing to balance loads. With an operating temperature range of zero to 50B0C without derating, the units can function up to 70B0C by derating the output 2.5 percent per degree C. They comply with IEC EN61000-3-2 harmonic and IEC EN61000-4-X susceptibility standards.

Designed for long life and trouble-free operation, the NTS models have a demonstrated mean time between failures (MTBF) of more than 1 million hours at full load in 25B0C ambient conditions as well as excellent vibration tolerance. They also comply with worldwide safety and performance standards from UL, CSA, VDE, NEMKO, AUSTEL, CB and CE.

Available now, pricing begins at $299.00 in OEM quantities. For more information, please contact an Astec Power representative in your area. To locate a representative, go to the Astec Power Web site at astecpower.com, and click on the SALES OFFICE button on the home page.
