The Siemon Company Announces New Industrial Cabling Connectivity

New IMAX(TM) industrial plug and outlet guarantee superior category 5e performance even in the harshest environmental conditions.

Watertown, CT (January 18, 2002) - The Siemon Company, a world leader in structured cabling and connectivity, today announced the release of a new line of connectivity products, the IMAX(TM) industrial plug and outlet. These new cabling components are designed specifically for industrial applications where harsh environmental conditions exist such as vibration, moisture, temperature extremes, and electromagnetic interference. The IMAX-plug and outlet deliver a robust category 5e Ethernet solution for the factory floor and other facilities such as chemical refineries, food processing plants, hospitals, marine sites, mines, and warehouses.

The Siemon Company's new IMAX(TM) industrial outlet and plug feature an innovative protective housing design with a patent-pending bayonet-style coupling nut. With a quarter-turn of the coupling nut, the plug and outlet become fully engaged and sealed against liquids and other environmental contaminants. The durable thermoplastic housing is resistant to chemicals and has a higher operating temperature than traditional connectors. Both the plug and outlet have an International Protection (IP) 67 rating.

John Wages, Associate Product Manager for The Siemon Company states, "We are very excited to offer this new connector. With our new IMAX(TM) plug and outlet, our customers can now extend their high-performance Ethernet applications onto the manufacturing floor or into areas where traditional connectivity is vulnerable to environmental extremes."

The Siemon Company is actively working within standards organizations to have the IMAX- interface accepted as the preferred interface for industrial environments. The Open DeviceNet Vendor Association (ODVA) was the first to select the IMAX(TM) as their accepted industrial interface. ODVA is an organization that manages the DeviceNet and EtherNet/IP network technology and standards, and is working to bring standard EtherNet protocol and connectivity to the industrial world. Siemon is also actively working within the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and International Electrotechnical Commission (TEC) for similar approval.

The IMAX(TM) plug and outlet are available in UTP as well as ScTP versions. The IMAX(TM) plugs can be terminated in the field for custom length configurations, and factory terminated and tested cable assemblies are available for warranteed installations.
