Adept Technology Introduces HexSight® 3.3 Vision Software

New Software Capabilities Designed to Increase Performance and Ease of Use

Livermore, California - December 15, 2004 - Adept Technology, Inc. (OTCBB: ADTK.OB), a leading manufacturer of robotic systems, motion control and machine vision technology, today announced the release of HexSight 3.3, an improved version of Adept's proven PC-based machine vision library used in robot guidance and inspection applications. The software's new features are designed to increase performance and ease of use as well as provide seamless integration with vision applications.

"HexSight 3.3 will provide our customers with more features that enable them to quickly build the highest performance vision applications," said Gordon Deans, Vice-President, Business Development and General Manager of Adept Technology Canada. "Whether they are end users, integrators or OEMs, HexSight will provide them with the appropriate tools and packaging they require."

With HexSight 3.3, Adept's comprehensive machine vision library is now available either as ActiveX controls (with support for .NET development environment) as well as DLL or static C++ libraries for tighter integration into vision applications.

The Locator, one of the industry's fastest and most reliable object location tool featuring multi-model and built-in calibration support, was improved in performance and ease of use. Already based on the most powerful geometric location algorithms, it was made model-based for accurate location of sub-features of varying scale and rotation. A simplified setup mode was also added for faster configuration of the Locator. In addition to the high performance Locator, HexSight® includes a very complete set of vision tools that are all model-based: Edge Locator, Caliper, Blob Analyzer, and geometric Finder tools, to name a few. These tools are used once the acquisition device has processed images and parts have been accurately positioned by the powerful Locator. They allow for various measurements and identification of parts or sub-features of parts such as barcodes and data matrixes. They therefore help decrease the inspection process time down to milliseconds so an automated system can quickly act on located objects.

The HexSight 3.3 release also includes new application examples, making it easier to rapidly prototype applications and integrate HexSight in more complex OEM vision applications.

Additionally, the HexSight machine vision library has an open interface architecture that allows for the support of a variety of frame grabbers and FireWire® (IEEE 1394) cameras from different vendors.

HexSight by Adept is a comprehensive machine vision library for robust, affordable, and accurate object finding and inspection. The powerful Locator tool accurately finds and positions objects regardless of their scale and rotation. HexSight provides reliability and performance in even the harshest environments. HexSight is used by OEMs, integrators and end-users developing robot guidance and inspection applications in environments such as assembly lines for various industries (automotive, electronics, food packaging, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, etc.).
