Irvine, CA, May 10, 2004 Roland DGA Corporation today introduced the LPX-1200 desktop 3D laser scanner with bundled Pixform Pro reverse modeling software. The LPX 1200 rapidly yields high quality scans, while Pixform Pro streamlines the data editing process.

"This complete hardware/software solution represents an incredible value for non-contact 3D scanning," said Gerald Hiller, Roland Sales Manager of 3D and Engraving Solutions. "The LPX-1200's scan quality rivals much more expensive non-contact scanners, and Pixform Pro offers performance and data editing tools usually found in software packages costing $15,000 and more."

When Roland introduced the LPX-250 three years ago, the innovative 3D laser scanner provided unmatched convenience and ease of use for the lowest price in the industry. The new LPX 1200 provides superior scanning quality and speed, as well as powerful Pixform Pro software. "It's the perfect input device for numerous CAD, CAM and animation applications," said Hiller.

The LPX-1200 enables users to scan a mobile phone to design blister packaging and/or accessories; scan a hand-sculpted alien for feature animation; and scan an ear canal mold for custom hearing aid manufacturing.

LPX-1200 features

· 0.0039-inch scanning resolution

· Rotary & planar scanning modes

· Five-inch (diameter) by eight-inch (height) scanning volume

· Fast and accurate non-contact laser sensor

· Excellent undercut surface capture ability

· Supports polygon to NURB surface conversion

· Rigid cast aluminum frame and precision optics with motion control sensors yield high quality scans with minimal surface noise

· Powerful reverse modeling software included

Pixform Pro

Compatible with all popular CAD/CAM programs, bundled Pixform Pro streamlines the data editing process. It can align, merge, fill holes, decimate, remesh, and translate polygon surfaces into NURB surfaces. It supports a wide array of data output formats including DXF, STL, WRL, 3DM and IGES. IGES is the NURBs file format used by popular CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, Pro/ENGINEER, Inventor, Mastercam, Delcam, FreeForm and Rhino.

Pixform Pro is also loaded with powerful features that make it easier and more efficient to edit 3D models. It allows users to merge scans for increased quality, change the shape around curved surfaces, sharpen edges, extend shapes, add thickness and perform Boolean operations on polygon surfaces. Pixform Pro runs on Windows 98SE, 2000, ME and XP.

The LPX-1200, with bundled Pixform Pro software, is shipping now with a list price of $21,995. Manufacturer's list price for the LPX-250 remains at $9,995. Leasing is available on all Roland products.
