Press release date: May 14, 2003
PITTSBURGH, PA - Pittsburgh Corning announces new THICKSET® 60 glass blocks, the latest addition to their family of U.L. fire rated glass block products. THICKSET® 60 glass blocks provide a 60-minute fire rating in a window assembly, which is ideal for applications where safety, aesthetics and cost are concerns.
THICKSET 60 glass blocks are ideal for builders and architects who are concerned about meeting fire rating codes without sacrificing the ideal qualities of glass block, such as clear visibility, durability, impact and vandal resistance, low maintenance and aesthetic appeal.
As part of the already popular line of Pittsburgh Corning U.L. fire rated products, THICKSET 60 glass blocks provide a much-needed median fire-rated block. In addition to this new 60-minute block, Pittsburgh Corning offers 45-minute-rated Premiere Series glass block and THICKSET® 90 and VISTABRIK® Solid Glass Block which both provide 90-minutes of fire rating protection.
THICKSET glass blocks offer a variety of ideal building and design characteristics: oSuperior sound transmission (STC) Ratings-For external walls or windows and interior walls and panels, THICKSET glass blocks are ideal for applications where sound reduction and privacy are concerns. o Vision control-Depending on the pattern chosen, THICKSET products offer a range of visibility from clear to privacy while still allowing ample light transmission. o Graffiti resistant-Unlike other building materials, the glass surface is easy to clean and resists damage from harsh chemicals and cleaning compounds, which aids in the removal of graffiti. o Weather resistant-When installed properly, THICKSET blocks are impervious to natural weather-related elements. In addition, THICKSET® 90 blocks are approved for hurricane impact. o Cost effective-When performance requirements are higher than standard glass blocks, THICKSET 60 blocks provide a lower-cost alternative to 90-minute rated blocks with the durability and proven performance of glass block.
Ideal for use in schools, airports, transit stations and city offices THICKSET 60 may also be used in residential applications such as high-density housing areas and limited lot line communities. They are available in 8-inch by 8-inch by 4-inch blocks in the popular DECORA® and VUE® patterns.
