Wisconsin Metal Parts, Inc. Adds Fiber Laser Services
Press release date: January 10, 2014
WAUKESHA, WI – Wisconsin Metal Parts, Inc. has added fiber laser cutting services to its capabilities for cutting stainless steel and other metals such as brass and copper. Wisconsin Metal Parts is one of only three metal parts producers in the state known to offer 5,000-watt fiber laser services in-house.
Fiber laser technology is typically used to cut metal parts ranging from small, intricate pieces to items up to 10 feet long. It can be useful in a variety of industries that require stainless steel parts, such as food service trays and carts, dairy and brewing equipment, appliances, construction products, heat transfer systems, medical devices, automation equipment, marine parts, aerospace applications and others.
Advantages of fiber laser services include cutting metals three times faster than CO2 laser systems; high accuracy specifically for cutting relatively thin materials (mainly 0.25" and thinner); prototyping and part marking capabilities; and low operating and maintenance costs. The system also reduces initial tooling costs and improves turnaround time, ideal for OEMs that require parts until production. Wisconsin Metal Parts uses a TRUMPF TruLaser 5030 Fiber unit: a 3-axis, solid-state fiber laser system which accommodates maximum sheet size of 120" x 60", maximum thickness of 1", and achieves accuracies as tight as .002".
“We saw a need for fiber laser technology, and it’s ideal for many of our customers’ applications,” said Dan Erschen, president of Wisconsin Metal Parts. “There’s a great opportunity to save time and cost, while providing a service that’s rarely offered in-house. We can apply fiber laser as a stand-alone service, but it can also play an important role for parts that require any of the secondary manufacturing processes we can offer. Few manufacturers have the ability to cut, machine, weld and assemble products, all in-house. We can even meet PPAP requirements, and supply inspection data and certs as required by our customers,” Erschen said.
Wisconsin Metal Parts staff have specialized training with fiber laser technology, as well as decades of experience processing stainless steel and other metals.
Wisconsin Metal Parts, Inc. was founded in 1988 as Die Concepts, Inc. and renamed in 2010 as the company broadened its range of metal parts solutions. Wisconsin Metal Parts has 65 employees working three shifts and more than 50,000 square feet of manufacturing space in Waukesha, where it provides CNC machined parts, sheet metal fabricating, prototype metal stampings, production of metal stampings and tool and die making. The company is ISO 9001:2008 certified and specializes in producing parts that require multiple forms of production such as stampings that require secondary grinding, machining or assembly.
