Securus Technologies Launches the Inmate Handbook Application for ConnectUs

Securus' Inmate Handbook Application is a cloud-based, hosted application on ConnectUs that publishes digital content to inmates.

DALLAS, -- Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigations, corrections and monitoring, announced today that it has launched the Inmate Handbook Application on ConnectUs.

The Inmate Handbook Application allows correctional agencies to electronically publish inmate rules and handbooks in any language.  The Inmate Handbook Application also allows inmates to view and acknowledge any correctional agency inmate handbook through the ConnectUs inmate platform delivered on a multi-purpose touch screen hardware terminal.

Richard A. "Rick" Smith, CEO of Securus Technologies said, "Policies and rules are important to maintain a safe and secure environment in correctional facilities.  Our customers must print this content regularly and make sure inmates acknowledge the rules.  This newest app allows correctional customers to "go-green" and eliminate the cost, time and manual effort of printing and distributing their paper handbooks."

Bringing the inmate handbook online is a continuation of Securus' approach to provide services to those incarcerated, automating manual processes and improving operational efficiencies in corrections.  Smith stated, "Our technology is giving inmates the opportunity to self-service without depending on correctional officers for basic needs.  These services need to be automated, tracked and controlled by correctional administrators.  Our Inmate Handbook Application through the ConnectUs platform brings this to reality saving time, reducing cost, reducing liability and improving the speed at which updates can be digitally published."

The Inmate Handbook application joins a multitude of other applications Securus has released on ConnectUs - the industry's first inmate operating system.

Over the past several years, Securus has invested over $32 million dollars and installed over 5,000 terminals to provide inmate and correctional services through unlimited applications that expand visitation opportunities, automate inmate requests and grievances, and bring educational content online.

"With the ConnectUs Handbook Application, we can make the distribution of handbooks, rules and regulations within the prisons and jails more timely, more accurate, and much more efficient - all leading to a safer and more disciplined facility environment.  Our estimated savings per year in the United States as a result of using our tool is over $300 million - money that can certainly be put to better use for healthcare and inmate and officer betterment programs.  Doing that is a challenge for all of us - and we are up to that challenge at Securus," said Smith.
