Product News: Test & Measuring Instruments
Acoustic Analyzer supports IEC60268-16 (2011, edition 4.0).
Press Release Summary:
November 21, 2012 - XL2 includes firmware v2.50, which reflects STI-PA measurement standard according to IEC 60268-16 (2011, edition 4.0) for verifying speech intelligibility of voice evacuation systems; older editions are supported for compliance with legacy specifications. Features such as averaging of multiple STI-PA results and onsite ambient noise correction further increase measurement efficiency, allowing installers emulating STI-PA measurements of crowded conditions even in empty environments.

Enhanced STI-PA Measurement with XL2
Press release date: November 1, 2012
The new firmware V2.50 extends the XL2 Acoustic Analyzer with the latest STI-PA measurement requirements according the standard IEC60268-16 (2011, edition 4.0). Older editions remain supported for compliance with legacy specifications.
Averaging Multiple STI-PA Measurements
Taking three to five subsequent measurements at the same location is the recommended practice according IEC60268-16 and VDE 0833 is mandatory in some other situations. Multiple measurements increase accuracy and the reliability of the readings. The XL2 Analyzer is now also offering an averaging function for multiple STI-PA results and calculates the arithmetic mean value and simultaneously, the deviation.
Ambient Noise Correction
Measuring STI-PA in real-life conditions of busy public places, e.g. train stations or airports, is often not feasible. For such circumstances customers may measure the speech intelligibility STI-PA e.g. at night with a preloaded noise spectra of the crowded conditions. This allows probing the worst case conditions onsite and applying improvements as necessary.
"Post processing measurements in the office and returning back to site to repeat them with improvements was yesterday. With the onsite averaging and ambient noise correction the XL2 now allows a very smooth workflow with no need for consulting a PC" says Philipp Schwizer, CEO of NTi Audio.
