AC Inverter Drive accepts plug-in communications options.

Press Release Summary:

SMVector drive accepts pop-in DeviceNet, CANopen, ModBus/RS485, and PROFIBUS-DP communication module options that can be factory-installed or inserted into already existing drive. Modular nature lets users maintain their own communication preferences, and PROFIBUS-DP option makes drive compatible with almost every machine environment by allowing mainstream process to talk to upstream as well as downstream devices.

Profibus-DP Protocol Added to SMVector Communication Options

UXBRIDGE, MA - JANUARY 29, 2008 - Lenze-AC Tech announces the release of the PROFIBUS-DP communication module, positioning their SMVector as a truly global product.

PROFIBUS-DP joins DeviceNet, CANopen and ModBus/RS485 as the fourth communication option for the SMVector drive. According to company officials, the streamlined pop-in modules can be factory-installed or simply inserted into an already existing SMVector. As a result, the SMVector becomes compatible in almost every machine environment, and users can maintain their own communication preferences.

"Since its development in 1989, PROFIBUS has become the most commonly used fieldbus in manufacturing, with a greater than 60% share of the automation market in the European Union," says Darrow Hanesian, Director of Product Management at Lenze-AC Tech, and he adds, "As a global company, giving our customers choices for device communication is simply good business sense." Hanesian explains that one feature that makes PROFIBUS so successful is the fact that it allows the mainstream process to talk to upstream as well as to downstream devices. "Horizontal and vertical communication improves message transmission and greatly reduces physical installation requirements," summarizes the Lenze-AC Tech executive.

Lenze-AC Tech develops, manufactures, markets and supports a complete range of motion control solutions, including servo drives and motors, clutches and brakes, gears and gear motors and variable frequency AC motor drives. Lenze-AC Tech's portfolio of AC Drive products extends from some of the world's smallest sub-micro drives up through large, 500 HP.
