DSP Group Introduces Next-Generation XpandR Wireless Multimedia Chipset

Innovative System-on-a-Chip Certified by Wi-Fi Alliance Voice-Personal Program

SAN JOSE, California, January 6/ -- DSP Group, Inc.(TM) (Nasdaq: DSPG), a leading global provider of wireless chipset solutions for converged communications at home, introduced today the XpandR(TM) II wireless multimedia processor chipset.
XpandR II is part of DSP Group's XpandR family of chipsets for wireless multimedia communications, which recently received certification from the Voice-Personal program of the Wi-Fi Alliance(R). Integrating Wi-Fi and DECT technologies, XpandR II enables consumer electronics (CE) manufacturers to develop a wide range of innovative, yet cost effective home multimedia products with fast time to market.

Suitable for all Wi-Fi and cordless telephony-based products, XpandR II is a comprehensive solution that includes an integrated multimedia and DECT/EDCT baseband processor, an analog front end, a full set of RF chips, a software package, and an array of multimedia peripherals. Utilized for full system implementation, XpandR II supports applications such as multimedia streaming, web browsing, communication services and voice. The state-of-the-art chipset complies with international IEEE 802.11a/b/g and cordless standards, including ETSI, while fully supporting Wi-Fi WMM, WMM-PS, WPA, WPA-2, and WPS, along with GAP, CAT-iq, 2.4 GHz, and DECT6.0.

"With the rapid introduction of wireless multimedia devices for the home such as Internet radios, digital picture frames and infotainment centers, consumer electronics manufacturers require high-performance, multimedia-dedicated chipsets enabling the convergence of video, voice, audio and data," said Oz Zimerman, Corporate Vice President of Marketing of DSP Group. "XpandR II is a complete solution that offers OEMs and ODMs all they need in order to capitalize on the fast-growing home multimedia device market."

XpandR II is the second generation of the XpandR chipset family, which received certification from the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED(TM) Voice-Personal program of the Wi-Fi Alliance. One of only four station devices worldwide initially announced as certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance program, the XpandR family underscores DSP Group's commitment to delivering wireless voice to the home. As the world's only system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution supporting both Wi-Fi and DECT, XpandR chipsets enable end-to-end voice over wireless (VoW) at a lower cost, better range and higher quality than alternative offerings.

"Certification of the XpandR family by the Wi-Fi Alliance reinforces our belief that the solution represents the best of both worlds," Zimerman added. "By bringing Wi-Fi networking to telephony, XpandR enables the development of a full range of value-added multimedia services. And by bringing DECT telephony to Wi-Fi networking, XpandR ensures that consumers will not have to compromise on voice quality."
