Leach Introduces Ultra-compact 28Vdc Windshield Heater Control Unit

BUENA PARK, Calif., July 17, 2006 - Leach International, a subsidaery of Esterline Corporation, has introduced a new compact, lightweight 28Vdc windshield heater control unit for use on small jets and helicopters.

The EPM-112 control unit is designed to provide power to heating elements while also monitoring the temperature of the windshield. It features two control channels, each with two independent temperature sensor inputs. Each control channel is rated for providing 1.4 kW to the windshield heating elements.

Featuring a maximum weight of only 600 grams, the compact EPM-112 has a case that measures 96mm (W) x 80mm (L) x 43mm (H) and a temperature range of -55C° to +85C°. Status reporting is via ARINC 429 on a single bus at 100 kHz with a 100 ms transmission cycle.

Additional features include continuous BIT for high-reliability operation, protection against over-current due to short circuit or open circuit of wiring or heater elements, protection against over-temperature and failure of sensors, and external fail-safe contactor control.
