Water Cut Monitor incorporates temperature compensation.

Press Release Summary:

Temperature compensated (TC) version of Universal IV™ CM offers accurate water cut measurement in 0%–1%, 0%–5%, 0%–10%, and 0%–30% water ranges. Accuracy reaches 0.03% water, while measurement resolution is 0.0002% water. Cote-Shield™ technology ignores coating buildup on probe and puts sensing area of instrument directly into process stream. Installed directly into main process line, Perm-A-Seal sensing element utilizes PEEK material and stainless steel sensing rod.

Original Press Release:

Drexelbrook Introduces a Temperature Compensation Feature for the Universal IV(TM) Water Cut Monitor

Offers Superior, Cost-Effective Accuracy Down to 0.03% Water, Easy Pipe Insertion, Cote-Shield™ Protection and Other Features

HORSHAM, PA – With the addition of a temperature compensation feature, the Universal IV™ CM Model Water Cut Monitor from AMETEK Drexelbrooknow offers improved accuracy and reliability for temperatures up to 160° F.

Along with these improvements, the temperature compensated (TC) version has all of the advantages of the previous version of the Universal IV. These include superior water cut measurement accuracy in the low ranges (0 – 1%, 0-5%, 0-10% and 0-30% water), accuracy down to 0.03 % water, and measurement resolution down to 0.0002 % water.

Among the key features of the compact Universal IV CM area built-in LCD display and key pad and its field-proven Cote-Shield™ technology, which ignores coating buildup on the probe and puts the sensing area of the instrument directly into the process stream.

The unique Perm-A-Seal sensing element on the Universal IV CM installs directly into a main process line without requiring spool pieces, side-arms or slipstreams.

The sensing element utilizes a PEEK (Poly Ether EtherKeytone) material and stainless steel sensing rod that is extremely durable and requires no epoxy coatings that can wear out and require expensive servicing. There are no gaskets that require servicing, and the sensing element will not wear out in well fluids that include large amounts of sand.

The Universal IV’s sensing element extends into a main process line, taking an average of the capacitive property of the fluid over its entire length. That ensures a smoother and more accurate response, regardless of the mixture. The monitor’s onboard electronics then computes the relationship between capacitance change and water cut.

The monitor’s electronics are designed to ignore paraffin buildup on the pipe and probe. The probes are designed to handle pressures up to 1500 PSI (1000PSI on the TC version) and temperatures up to 450°F.

When maintenance is required, users simply remove the probe, wipe it down and re-insert. There’s no need to take apart spool pieces or tie-off large pipelines. Field calibration can be done anywhere along the two-wire loop with Drexelbrook’sHRTwin™ PC software or via local display/keypad without a laptop or handheld communicator.

The Universal IV Model CM Cut Monitor is fully backward compatible with Drexelbrook’s industry-leading CM-6 / CM-3 systems, offering customers a seamless transition to the improved Universal IV system.  An upgrade retrofit kit is available that allows replacement of existing transmitters without removing the probe.

Applications for the Universal IV CM include automatic well testing (AWT), lease automatic custody transfer (LACT), basic sediment and water (BS&W), separation vessels, pipeline slug detection, truck unloading, pipe protection, dielectric analysis, and machinery lube oil monitoring.

Drexelbrook offers installation and start up services on all of its cut monitors. Factory trained service engineers are available to assist users with installation, start-up and calibration. The instrument is approved worldwide for Class 1 Div 1 and Zone 0 hazardous locations. FM, FMc, ATEX and IECEx approvals are available.
