Walk-In Batch Oven Cures Varnish on Industrial Transformers

Wisconsin Oven designed and manufactured an electrically heated walk-in batch oven to cure varnish on industrial transformer coils used in municipalities and large factories. Several transformer plates are wound together with copper wire and placed into a steel case to create the industrial transformers. Varnish is applied to the coils for insulation and corrosion protection of the transformer plates.

The curing oven has chamber dimensions of 15'0" wide x 18'0" long x 6'6" high and a maximum operating temperature of 302º F. The oven is constructed with 6" thick tongue and groove panel assemblies and 20 gauge aluminized steel interior and ductwork. The heating system features incoloy sheathed heating elements, for a total of 300kW heat input with SCR power control. The recirculation system has a 27,000 CFM @ 20 HP blower, and utilizes combination airflow to maximize heating rates and temperature uniformity.

A dual pass filtration system and a non-powered load car with a 24 Metric Ton capacity were also supplied with the batch oven. The load car dimensions are 11'6" wide x 16'5" long x 16" high. It is constructed with a heavy duty carbon steel structure and bar grating work surface.

The customer required a 9-point profile test to guarantee temperature uniformity of +/-9° F at 230° F. The curing batch oven has a UL certified and labeled NEMA 12 control enclosure with IEC style motor starters, push buttons, and pilot lights. The PLC system provides the customer with the capability of recipe programming up to 20 programs and Ethernet communication. The temperature for the oven is controlled by a Eurotherm 3216 controller and recorded by a touchscreen Honeywell eZTrend recorder.
