Original Press Release:

Microsemi Continues Its leadership in Broadband Gateway Line Circuits with the Introduction of Single-channel miSLIC Devices

Pin Compatible with Dual-channel Devices, Microsemi's New miSLIC Device Enables Broadband Manufacturers to Offer One or Two Voice Channels from a Single Design

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.,  -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today further expanded the company's miSLIC((TM)) product line with a single-channel device that supports the ZSI interface designed for broadband gateway applications.

Having shipped over 500 million voice lines into the market, Microsemi is a leading provider of economical solutions for adding voice to broadband products. The new Le9661 device is no exception, providing a highly integrated, low power and cost-effective voice solution that enables reduced bill-of-material (BOM) costs. The miSLIC device's feature set and small packaging make it ideal for a full range of broadband residential gateways, including VDSL2 integrated access devices (IADs), Docsis 3.x cable embedded multimedia terminal adapters (eMTAs), and GPON and EPON fiber-to-the-premise (FTTX) solutions.

"Residential and SOHO VoIP subscribers are expected to grow at a 5.8 percent CAGR, reaching 281 million subscribers in 2018," reports Diane Myers, principal analyst for VoIP, UC and IMS at Infonetics Research. "This will continue to drive demand for voice enabled gateways."

The Le9661 single-channel voice line circuit is pin compatible with dual-channel miSLIC devices (Le9662 and Le9672). The new device directly interfaces with processors developed by leading system-on-chip (SoC) suppliers for residential gateway applications. It also supports ringing and system power management and meets the latest V5.0 release of the European Code of Conduct on Energy Consumption of Broadband Equipment.

"The pin compatibility advantages we designed into this newest miSLIC device give broadband gateway manufacturers additional flexibility to develop a single design that offers one or two voice channels as an assembly option in production, allowing for greater economies of scale and lower total solution cost," said Nigel Wakely, Microsemi's director of marketing, voice products. "As a leading supplier of voice line circuits, Microsemi remains committed to continued innovation and investment in expanding our range of voice solutions for the communications market."

Packaging and Availability

The Le9661WQC miSLIC device is available in a 56-pin quad flat lead free (QFN) package and is sampling now. Pricing starts at $2.50 in 1,000 unit quantities.
