Cost-Effective High Quality Codecs

NKF Electronics has developed a new series of bandwidth efficient and cost-effective MPEG-2 video codecs, the C-series. It is designed to stream video with the highest quality possible over IP networks and is compatible with NKF's NVR. In addition NKF introduces an integrated encoder-Ethernet switch (CS-20) for drop & insert applications.
The C-series codecs all feature a high performance MPEG-2 encoder and decoder, which performance has been rated as one of the best. The encoders are able to stream three different qualities simultaneously, each stream optimised for its purpose: displaying, recording, intelligent scene analysis, etc. In combination with IGMP multicast, these features enable efficient use of available network capacity. In addition, all codecs are designed and tested to operate under industrial conditions, characterized by a wide temperature range (-40 to +74°C) and mechanical stress (vibration and shock).
The C-10 offers a cost-effective solution for video-only applications, while the C-15 is best suited in video with serial data applications, like CCTV surveillance with PTZ control. The C-20, already introduced last year, has been upgraded with the multi-stream functionality. It offers next to video, two bi-directional serial data ports, two bi-directional audio channels and two bi-directional telemetry I/O's. The CS-20 combines the functionality of the C-20 encoder with Fast Ethernet switching. The integrated switch features 4 electrical ports and 2 pluggable optical ports. NKF supports a variety of these pluggable ports (XSNetT SFP) offering the best solution in any situations.
The combination of XSNetT components (Fast and Gigabit Ethernet switches) and codecs makes it possible to create one multi-service communication network, based on IP/Ethernet, for video, voice and data. This can cover large areas (Metropolitan Area Networks/Local Area Networks). Typical applications are incident management along motorways, video surveillance in airports, railways, subways, light-rail, city centres, etc.
Together with NKF's XSNet(TM) Ethernet equipment, Networked Video Recorder, intelligent picture analysis software and MX(TM) software-suite, the C-series codecs complete the portfolio for every video network application.
