Simrad Debuts RS90 VHF Radio

New Marine Radio Featuring High-Performance Built-In Functionality Allowing Boaters to Stay Connected in Every Way

Egersund, Norway — Simrad, world-leader in the design and manufacture of marine electronics, announced today its powerful and versatile new modular, black box VHF radio, the RS90. Packed with innovative communication features the RS90 offers unparalleled performance with a standard feature set that includes an Automatic Identification System (AIS) receiver, hailer, foghorn and intercom, as well as NMEA connectivity for sharing data across the network with Simrad multifunction displays.

Combining the perfect fusion of intelligent design and superb engineering, the Simrad RS90 high-performance VHF radio extends beyond basic communications and provides boaters advanced functionality anywhere on board. Class D compliant for global use, the new Simrad Yachting VHF has an NMEA 2000 interface and includes a built-in, dual-channel AIS receiver that allows AIS reception and VHF use via a single antenna. A thirty-second ‘record and replay’ function ensures vital calls are never missed. Ideal for sportfishing, the RS90 VHF’s optional scrambler provides the ability to keep favorite fishing spots secret, and the system’s “Track Your Buddy” feature connects DSC position polling with Simrad MFDs via the NMEA 2000® network for GPS location display of up to three boating friends. Additional advanced capabilities include GPS navigation and Man Over Board (MOB) functionality.

“The Simrad RS90 is the ultimate radio solution for power boaters and sportfishing anglers who demand only the best," said Leif Ottosson, CEO of Navico. “The RS90 delivers unrivalled functionality and flexibility allowing boaters to stay connected in every way for safe, convenient and efficient navigation.”

Housed in a black box, all major RS90 components are hidden from sight, while the unit’s stylish handset, encased in rubber for durability and a confident grip, can be conveniently installed anywhere onboard. The RS90 VHF radio has a large, easy-to-read, 180 x 128-pixel LCD display with adjustable backlighting, plus a large built-in telephone-style speaker and alpha numeric keypad. Ensuring installation flexibility to keep boaters in reach, the RS90 can support up to a maximum of 6 handsets, more than any other VHF on the market — 4 wired and 2 wireless when paired with the compact Simrad HS35 Wireless Handset. Tough and dependable, the Simrad RS90 is waterproof to the IPx7 standard (submersible), protected by a two-year limited warranty and supported for an additional three years by the Simrad 5-Year Advantage Program.

Available April 2014, the Simrad RS90 VHF can be purchased from authorized dealers and distributors throughout the United States and Canada for US $899.
