Experian Introduces Financial Assistance CheckerSM for Utility Companies' Low-Income Assistance Programs

Product provides automated qualification and recertification of eligible customers, resulting in more efficient, cost effective and expedited enrollment in programs

COSTA MESA, Calif. - Experian®, the leading global information services company, announced the launch of Financial Assistance CheckerSM, a score designed to help utility companies qualify and recertify consumers for their low-income assistance programs. Financial Assistance Checker enables utility companies to automate a large portion of the manual review involved in these programs, making them less costly for the utility and more efficient overall. In testing, the score has reduced manual intervention by 40 percent to 50 percent by automatically recertifying current enrollees.

"By reducing the cost of low-income assistance programs, Financial Assistance Checker enables utilities to run a more efficient program and potentially enroll more participants," said Steven Wagner, president of Experian Consumer Information Services. "The product produces a score that allows utility companies to automatically recertify existing customers, validate new customers for enrollment and identify existing customers not currently enrolled in low-income assistance programs."

Experian's Financial Assistance Checker can help clients:

- Validate participants for their low-income assistance programs in an automated environment

- Identify consumers who may be eligible for low-income assistance

- Optimize marketing campaign dollars aimed at low-income consumers

- Reduce delinquency and collections issues with current low-income consumers

- Develop educational campaigns promoting awareness of financial assistance programs available for energy bills

- Comply with Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) requirements

"Low-income programs are offered by utility companies on a voluntary basis to help members of their local communities," added Wagner. "Financial Assistance Checker is an important service that not only aids the utility companies, but also creates less of a cost burden to consumers."
