Original Press Release:

The Shop Floor Revolution: the GMX 250 S Linear now with Two-Channel Workshop Programming - up to a 70% Reduction in Programming Time Compared with DIN

The new GMX 250 S linear is by far more than just an impressive Turning / Milling Center from the successful GMX linear Series machines from DMG. In addition to all of the features that the other members of this Series provide, the GMX 250 S linear allows two-channel workshop programming on the basis of the adapted Plus IT controls from Heidenhain with the integrated TurnPlus programming, thereby revolutionizing the application of machines with combined technology for the workshop. The turning / milling spindles and the revolver of this Turning / Milling Center can be programmed as easily as a Universal Turning Machine, and includes a multi-channel carriage indicator in the area of automation as well as a detailed machining indicator (main and downtimes). This results in a reduction of programming times by up to 70%.

The new GMX 250 S linear is more than an impressive Turning / Milling Center in DMG's GMX 250 linear Series. It offers all of the features that make all of the machines in this series globally successful. This machine also introduces graphically-supported two-channel workshop programming to the field of Turning / Milling Centers for the first time. Presumably complex Turning / Milling Centers can now be programmed as easily and simply as a Universal Turning Machine. This includes an exceedingly simple selection of requested cycles and 3D-workpiece simulation of all turning and milling operations up to the B-axis contour.

Harry Junger, CEO of GILDEMEISTER Drehmaschinen GmbH comments on this new development: "A definite objective of our new development is to reduce inhibitions and prejudices with regard to a presumably complicated Turning / Milling Center. With the new GMX 250 S linear, the Plus IT control from Heidenhain allows programming of the turning / milling spindle with the lower turret in one simple dialog. Even complex work- piece programs can be generated on-site with graphic 3D-support and a permanent control in an intuitive and comfortable manner."

The user now finishes the workpiece up to 70% faster and safer, compared with the conventional DIN programs, so that the responsibility for a workpiece can be placed back in the workshop without a loss in productivity. With the TurnPlus feature, the GMX 250 S linear is a highly productive machining center for medium batch sizes and and is a flexible, versatile center for the machining of small batches and individual parts, regardless of the complexity of the workpieces.

In addition to the "soft" highlights, the GMX 250 S linear offers all the advantages of the existing GMX linear Series. A linear drive in the in the Z-axis, the cross-carriage slide with a Y and B-axis, the highly dynamic turning / milling spindle with 12,000 rpm. (optional 18,000 rpm.) and 29.5 hp. as well as the 12x turret with driven tools (optional), combine the performance of a high-end turning machine with the bundled power of a high-tech machining center, even in the standard version.

Like the other representatives of the GMX linear Series, the GMX 250 S linear is also a modular machine that can be adapted to the needs of the client. With the chuck machine as its basis, an NC-tailstock can be integrated for shaft machining. The next design level includes a counter spindle with an integrated spindle motor that offers optimum conditions for the highest precision for 6-sided complete machining which is due to the angle and synchronous rotational speed transfer of the workpiece.

The turning and milling tools with the HSK 63A interface or the Capto C6 receiver are provided in the CMX 250 S linear by a new disk magazine for 36 tools. This magazine can be loaded ergonomically from the front and also assures covered tool exchange. For highly-precise machining at each expansion stage, the absolute measuring system in the linear axes which are positioned with the carriages, irrespective of the temperature, makes the otherwise time-consuming reference point drive unnecessary when applied with the application of the glass-scale measuring system.

The GMX 250 S linear offers perfect, task-optimized performance for turning, drilling milling or deep hole drilling of chuck, bar and shaft parts, For this reason, this innovation fits seamlessly into the successful series of Turning / Milling Centers from DMG, and assures the client that the setup is perfect for each machining task and each part size. There is therefore no question, that the GMX 250 S linear offers a number of automation possibilities such as the adaptation and integration of the gantry loader, for example.

In his closing statement, Harry Junger does not forget how to define the trends of multi-technology machines and shows how GILDEMEISTER approaches the subject of optimized machining by also referring to DMG Service Solutions. With the GMX 250 S linear, the broader field of DMG Powertools, and among them the DMG Production Manager or the already successful DMG Netservice, are available options for the user. In addition to that, considerable streamlining potentials of up to 15% can be achieved by the simultaneous application of the adaptation of tool management and presetting instruments from DMG Microset, especially with regard to Turning / Milling Centers.
