Elster Showcases at Wasser Berlin International Exhibition

New H5000 features widest measuring range of any metering technology with a single measuring element

LUTON, England -- Elster (NYSE: ELT) is showcasing its next generation H5000 Woltmann turbine bulk water meter at Wasser Berlin International, Europe's main event for water and wastewater from 2 May to 5 May in Berlin, Germany.

With a range of important features and its innovative measuring technology, the H5000 is ideally suited for billing or water distribution applications. A new rotor design combined with proven sensor technology maximizes its measuring range.

A single measuring element improves sensitivity, durability and maintains its useful life even at the highest flow rates. With low-flow capabilities similar to combination meters, the H5000 provides a metrological performance that ensures accurate measurement of minimum night flows.

The H5000 meter has an advanced electronic register which includes integrated communications covering a range of industry standard outputs compatible with common AMR/AMI systems and data-logging equipment.

The H5000 uses the same body as Elster's H4000 Woltmann meter, providing simple, cost effective change-out of existing meter stocks. For new meters, the H5000 is available in both ISO (WP) and DIN (WS) body lengths. The meter can also be installed in any orientation without any loss of metering accuracy.

A range of H5000 meter sizes have also been approved to the European Measuring Instruments Directive 2004/22/EC. The approved measuring range of 1600:1 marks the first time that this exceptional level of performance has been achieved from a Woltmann type water meter.

"We have been impressed with Elster's innovative H5000. The low-flow capability of this meter has demonstrated its benefit in our pilot project by supporting our small district metered area (DMA) for data management and ensuring accurate measurement of minimum night flows," commented Barrie Light, leakage supervisor of Sembcorp Bournemouth Water.

"With a measuring range of 1600:1, the H5000 offers customers a solution that provides accurate water measurement in support of both commercial billing and network applications. It also simplifies meter selection and helps to provide reliable connectivity for Smart Metering and other telemetry devices," said Gary Vincent, director of marketing and product management for Elster's water business unit.
