HaloarrestXLink LSZH Thermoset Jacket from Belden Offers Non-toxic Cable Solution for Industrial Markets
Press release date: January 30, 2013
St. Louis, Missouri – Belden Inc. (NYSE:BDC) a global leader signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, announces the availability of its HaloarrestXLink LSZH Thermoset Jacket, which offers a non-toxic cable solution for demanding industrial markets including oil and gas, utility and power generation, transportation, petrochemical and mining. This jacket material offers optimal oil, abrasion and high temperature resistance using a low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) compound. HaloarrestXLink jackets can be specified for any 600V Belden instrumentation or control cable.
Thermoset Jacket Solution for Industrial Applications
HaloarrestXLink thermoset jackets do not melt at any level of heat or when exposed to flame, protecting workers and preventing damage to expensive machinery. Like Belden’s LSZH thermoplastic jackets, HaloarrestXLink thermoset jackets provide a safe, non-toxic, non-corrosive alternative for organizations that prefer to use non-halogenated products. Belden offers two thermoset jacketing options: HaloarrestXLink-1, which is compliant with the UL-1277 Oil Res I requirement and HaloarrestXLink-2, which is compliant with the UL-1277 Oil Res II requirement.
Safety Concerns Growing
In Europe and increasingly in the United States, safety concerns are encouraging the adoption of LSZH jackets in areas where there is limited ventilation, sensitive equipment or unprotected human or animal populations that could be exposed to toxic fumes. In many countries, non-halogenated cable is now the standard.
Halogen-containing polymers, such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP), are inherently flame retardant, however, when halogens do burn, they produce smoke and acid gas that are toxic and corrosive, posing a threat to both humans and equipment. Halogenated cable can release acid gases that sear the eyes, nose, mouth, and throat. The fumes can disorient workers, preventing them from escaping a blaze. They can also cause severe respiratory damage.
Safety and Reliability
The HaloarrestXLink LSZH Thermoset Jacket has been tested against many common and uncommon environmental corrosives. It is industry-approved for installations and applications that require oil resistance, weather and sun resistance, abrasion resistance and resistance to oxidation, acid and ozone. Installations of HaloarrestXLink-jacketed cable provide safety without compromising reliability, thus mitigating the risk of downtime related to cable failure.
The HaloarrestXLink jacket is available for order now in North and South America. For more information on Belden’s HaloarrestXLink LSZH Thermoset Jacket, request Capabilities Bulletin # 0022, visit www.Belden.com or call 1-800-BELDEN-1 (1-800-235-3361).
