Spirent Launches New Multi-GNSS Navigation and Positioning Test System

Spirent GSS6700 offers a flexible solution for R&D, integration and verification testing of GPS, GLONASS and Galileo devices

PAIGNTON, United Kingdom, July 16 / / - Spirent Communications plc , the leading provider of navigation and positioning test solutions, today announced the launch of the Spirent GSS6700 Multi-GNSS Constellation Simulator for global navigation satellite system (GNSS) testing. The GSS6700 offers not only GPS test capability but also support for the Russian GLONASS system and planned European Galileo system.

"Many people are actively looking at adding more signals from different satellite constellations to improve navigation and positioning device performance," commented John Pottle, marketing director of Spirent's Positioning Technology division. "Spirent has significant experience in developing and offering test systems which combine GPS, GLONASS and Galileo signals. The new GSS6700 is designed for testing devices that use commercial multi-GNSS signals. Each GSS6700 benefits from Spirent's proven heritage of technical excellence and reliability."

The GSS6700 is available with a range of software capabilities designed to suit differing test requirements. SimGEN is Spirent's fully flexible simulator software suite and would typically be used in technology development and R&D applications. For environments where repeat testing using the same test cases is needed, for example verification testing, Spirent's SimREPLAY software is available. SimREPLAY can be specified with web-based or on-board limited scenario generation capability.

In addition to GPS, GLONASS and Galileo commercial signals, the GSS6700 supports augmentation system and interference testing. Space Based Augmentation System (SBAS) support is a standard offering with GPS systems. Options include dynamic and flexible interference signal generation, vehicle sensor emulation coherent with GNSS and Local Area Augmentation System (LAAS) support. Spirent also offers a range of test scenarios to reduce test scenario development time.

Simulation of GPS, GLONASS and Galileo is acknowledged as the best way of testing GNSS receiver, system and application performance. Only laboratory simulation can ensure controlled, repeatable testing that explores both nominal and off-design conditions with easy access to test data. By following a structured test approach, Spirent's customers can test multi-GNSS receivers, systems and applications resulting in reduced costs, shorter development times and improved performance.
