Oclaro(TM) Launches New Focus(TM) Tapered Amplifier

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 2 / / - Oclaro, Inc. (NASDAQ: OCLR), the newly named optics and photonics company following the merger of Bookham and Avanex, will launch a high-power Tapered Amplifier for atomic and precision spectroscopy under the New Focus brand at next week's PhotonXpo, taking place at CLEO 2009, in Baltimore. The tapered structure of the amplifier medium maintains low power densities even after amplification, avoiding damage to the semiconductor chip and still maintaining the high quality transverse mode structure of the seed source.

The robust TA-7600 series amplifier, capable of delivering in excess of 1 Watt output power, offers fiber-coupled input, allowing for extremely easy alignment, which also better protects the amplifier chip. The amplifier is compatible with the New Focus Vortex(TM) II Precision Laser, as well as supporting many other laser sources.

The amplifier will originally be targeted toward the main atomic spectroscopy wavelengths: 767nm, 780nm, 795nm, and 852nm. Other wavelengths will follow and can be provided by request. The amplifier series enable a number of important performance enhancement features, including a constant power mode, a monitor for input power, and front- and back-end isolation. The product is available with free-space or fiber-coupled output.

The new amplifier and the new Vortex II laser line are available through the New Focus Catalog and website - www.newfocus.com - or by contacting sales@newfocus.com. The new amplifier products can be seen at booth #1113 at PhotonXpo.
