Overview
The IBM TotalStorage® Enterprise Tape Media 3599 Models 011, 021, E11 and E21 can now be ordered formatted to support the IBM System Storage TS1120 Tape Drive Model E05. The new E2 Format on the 3599 cartridge delivers:
Model 011 500 GB native cartridge capacity
Model 021 500 GB Write-Once, Read-Many (WORM) capacity
Model E11 100 GB native cartridge capacity
Model E21 100 GB WORM capacity

These models allow flexibility in the specification and ordering of prelabeled and initialized data cartridges.

The 3592 WORM cartridges are designed for applications such as archiving and data retention, and also those applications requiring an audit trail. These cartridges work with the TS1120 Tape Drive to help prevent the alteration or deletion of user data.

The economy cartridges are for applications where 100 GB is more appropriate than 500 GB, and for applications where time to first data is important.

The cartridges have cartridge memory in each data cartridge designed to help enhance the functionality and reliability of the media. The form factor of the cartridges for the TS1120 or 3592 drive is similar to that used by the 3590 drive, which allows them to be used in the IBM TotalStorage 3494 Tape Library or the StorageTek Automated Cartridge System (ACS) Silo solutions. In addition, 3592 cartridges can be used in the IBM TotalStorage 3584 Tape Libraries Models L22 and D22 with the new TS1120 Tape Drive Model E05.

Key prerequisites
The E2 Format is only for use with the IBM System Storage TS1120 Tape Drive Model E05.

Planned availability date
October 28, 2005
