Designed to extend service life without use of solid lubricants, auxiliary seals, or large quantities of grease, Three-Barrier Solution consists of factory-sealed SKF Explorer spherical roller bearings, split pillow block housings, PosiTrac Plus(TM) type seals, and 60-80% grease fill. Bearings are lubricated, sealed, and mounted inside housing, which is then internally greased and sealed, creating 3 layers of protection for bearings during operation.

SKF 'Three-Barrier Solution' Introduces a Bundle of Products to Increase Reliability of Bearings for Conveyors Operating in Harsh Conditions
A unique SKF "Three-Barrier Solution" for conveyor applications exposed to extremely harsh conditions introduces a bundle of environmentally friendly products designed to increase bearing reliability and extend service life without the use of solid lubricants, auxiliary seals, or large quantities of grease. This conveyor solution ideally suits operations in the mining, cement and aggregates, steel, forestry, and pulp and paper industries, among others.
The "Three-Barrier Solution" consists of four interrelated components: Factory-sealed and upgraded SKF Explorer performance class spherical roller bearings, optimized split pillow block housings, PosiTrac Plus(TM) type seals for the housing, and 60% to 80% grease fill inside the housing.
The bearing is lubricated, sealed, and mounted inside the housing, which is then internally greased and sealed. This creates three layers ("three barriers") of protection for the bearing during operation: The integral bearing seals keep the lubricant in and contaminants out of the bearing cavity; the PosiTrac Plus seals in the housing protect against extremely fine contaminants and eliminate any need for expensive auxiliary (such as taconite) seals; and the grease packed into the housing on both sides of the sealed bearing complete the protection.
Users can realize increased bearing reliability and service life and reduced lubricant consumption, environmental impact, maintenance costs, and unplanned downtime.
