Tektronix Communications Adds Wireless Network Application to Network Optimization Suite of Solutions

Automatic Radio Optimization Offers Engineers Productivity Gains and Increases End User Quality of Experience

RICHARDSON, Texas, June 17 /- Tektronix Communications, a leading worldwide provider of communications network management and diagnostics solutions, today announced the availability of automatic radio optimization, a new application that is part of OptiMon, the suite of advanced network optimization products based on Tektronix' Network and Service Analyzer (NSA) platform, widely adopted by wireless operators and manufacturers' professional services teams around the world.

The OptiMon solution comprises fully-automated software applications for a range of mobile networks and allows operators with 2G, 3G and WiMAX networks to identify in real-time the root cause of quality of service (QoS) issues by mapping service problems to underlying network problems.

The new features in the automatic radio optimization application are designed to improve productivity by allowing optimization engineers to increase the quality of experience of end users in less time and reduce overall operating expenses. With this new application, network optimization engineers will be able to focus on the most critical events and performance issues, saving a significant amount of time previously required for data analysis. Users will have complete visibility of Iub, Iu and Iur traffic at the RNC level, with easy access to critical radio network parameters, KPIs and trends with just the click of a button. The application provides fully automated intelligent support to decision making process as well as automated reporting and alarms based on triggers.

"Analyzing data for optimization is a critical component of managing networks for quality of service," said Martin Kuerzinger, General Manager Mobile Diagnostics and Optimization, Tektronix. "The OptiMon suite of solutions provides network engineers with unmatched tools necessary to truly ensure the quality and experience subscribers expect in today's competitive market. With the ability to identify and troubleshoot problems quickly, operators can improve QoS and enhance productivity by eliminating the enormous amount of time it typically takes to sift through large amounts of data and solve the other critical issues which are represented by the need to control and master the cost of quality."

The new application provides immediate visibility, information and reporting on critical areas including Over-provisioned and Missing Neighbors, Pilot Pollution, Ping-Pong handover and Sleeping Cells, allowing for quick detection and documentation of issues that may lead to QoS degradation or decreased ROI. Additionally, automatic triggers and alarms erase the need for continuous observation by sending users alarms via e-mail or short message service (SMS) if a pre-determined threshold is exceeded.

OptiMon includes Tektronix' industry-leading TrendNavigate and DT-Synergy optimization solutions that enable operators to identify trends and issues within the network and recognize where issues originate, determine root cause and provide actionable information. TrendNavigate is a KPI trend analysis tool that can improve UMTS Radio Access Network (UTRAN) performance optimization by providing high-level statistical analysis combined with drill-down cause analysis.

For further enhanced productivity, DT-Synergy, an advanced software application that enables correlation of drive test system data with protocol test data, allowing a significant visibility and efficiency gain for optimization engineers. The tools provide improved time-to-resolution for optimization campaigns through the concurrent analysis and comparison of uplink and downlink events and measurements provided by drive test and Protocol Analysis. This advanced application also allows increased efficiency by overcoming the typical shortcomings of a network optimization strategy based purely on drive test campaigns including lack of visibility on uplink activity, poor statistical relevance of data gathered and the high operating costs associated for each campaign.

About Tektronix' Network Optimization Portfolio

Tektronix offers customers a market-leading network optimization portfolio, which is built around the Network & Service Analyzer (NSA) and the RF Scout.

The NSA provides fully automated instrument configuration for Iub, Iur, Iu-CS and Iu-PS interfaces, which greatly reduces the time required to obtain and analyze the data. Additionally, the application provides fully automated network topology discovery, enabling effective troubleshooting of live 3G networks.

The RF Scout, the industry's first handheld, field-ready interference hunting tool, enables network performance planning and optimization teams to explore, discover, analyze and document in-channel and out-of-channel RF interference and coverage issues or other radio signal quality problems. The handheld form factor, performance and durability make measurements convenient, reliable and accurate whether inside a building or outdoors.
