Rockwell Automation Introduces Innovative Software Solutions for MES and Clinical Supply Management in Life Sciences Industries

Rockwell Software RS PMX CTM and RS PMX MES build on success of Propack Data to improve decision-making and shorten development-to-manufacturing cycles

MILWAUKEE, Oct. 12, 2006 - Rockwell Automation today introduced innovative MES and clinical supply software solutions that help life sciences companies better leverage manufacturing information in the drug development and manufacturing processes. Rockwell Software RS PMX CTM 4.0 and RS PMX MES 4.2 software - the most recent releases formerly offered under the Propack Data brand - provide better information integration and clinical trial supply management to shorten product life-cycle development from research and development to commercial manufacturing.

"These software applications build on the solid platform we acquired when we purchased Propack Data. They reflect our commitment to ongoing investment in information solutions for life sciences," said Bob Honor, life sciences vice president, Rockwell Automation. "These enhanced offerings utilize an integrated approach to process analytical technology and - when combined with our global services, hardware, and automation integration - enable companies to accelerate technology transfer between R&D and production."

Clinical Trial Supply Management - Life sciences companies seeking to expand clinical trials to patients in more countries require global label approval and multiple language support. RS PMX CTM 4.0 improves clinical supply by introducing an integrated label editor with global label approval and printing capabilities. Users can reduce clinical trials time through direct design and printing of regulatory-minded labels in any language, taking advantage of the Unicode fonts commonly used in the Asia-Pacific region. Collaboration among clinical research partner organizations also is enhanced through improved integration with clinical and business systems, such as Integrated Voice Response Systems. Optimizing clinical trial supply management can help companies generate cost savings of up to 40 percent.

Manufacturing Execution Systems - RS PMX MES 4.2 improves commercial production processes, delivers more functionality, and provides better ease of use and enhanced XML data transfer capabilities. Tightly integrating weigh and dispense with electronic work instructions enables seamless line dispensing from the electronic batch record. Batch reviews are accelerated as users can now navigate through a completed batch record by work instructions or by exception, using searching capabilities to filter on deviations. Finally, built-in XML data transfer capabilities speed production and improve material flow control by enabling users to create and approve recipes in a test environment, prior to moving them into production.

"Harmonizing business processes across supply networks and building the agility to respond quickly as market demand changes is an ongoing effort in the life sciences industry," said Hussain Mooraj, life sciences research director at AMR Research. "Succeeding in this competitive industry demands that companies leverage technology advancements as a strategic asset, and optimize their clinical and product supply networks to reduce time to market, cut costs and ensure they have product at the right place and at the right time."

In late 2005, Rockwell Automation announced its FactoryTalk strategy. The majority of Rockwell Software applications are being incorporated into one integrated suite of plant-wide information software. All FactoryTalk software applications utilize a service-oriented architecture - a shared set of software services that provides common security, diagnostics, auditing, data model, licensing, real-time data, historical data, alarms and events, and configuration. Rockwell Software is converging RS PMX functional capabilities with the FactoryTalk platform over a multi-year time period, establishing a broad-based life sciences solution set as part of its strategy to create a single, configurable and modular multi-industry technology platform.

"These portfolio enhancements demonstrate that Rockwell Software is working vigorously to help pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies shorten the product life cycle," said John Blanchard, principal analyst, ARC Advisory Group. "RS PMX CTM and RS PMX MES customers not only realize immediate benefits from the enhanced solution capabilities, they are better positioned to leverage the technology transfer framework that will support future migration to the FactoryTalk suite."
