Why perform a risk assessment?

It is the equipment manufacturer's responsibility to assess the user's specifications and to ensure that the usage of the equipment, considering its capacity and limits within the work environment, and the maintenance program, will satisfy the user s requirements. The manufacturer must also convey to the user all residual risks that could not be either totally or reasonably reduced. If hazards are present and safety elements have been installed, or modified, to reduce the risk of injury and if the manufacturer s risk assessment documentation can not be obtained, or does not exist, a formal evaluation of the risk and the risk reduction measures is required.

CIRSMA provides the user with pre-defined choices allowing the risk to be managed such that the responsibility for risk reduction measures can be distributed to either the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) / Integrator or the facility that will utilize the equipment. By simply reviewing the remaining level of risk that is shown at the bottom of each section the user can plainly see the end result of the selections that have been made. This program will assist the equipment designer or the equipment purchaser in managing the risks to which each company is exposed, as well as help to manage equipment and manpower expenditures at the design and commissioning stages.

Global trade has placed equipment manufacturers in a very challenging situation. The equipment manufacturing community is receiving pressure from end user production facilities to provide formal risk assessment documentation. The risk assessment often must be based on the regulations of the destination country rather than the country of origin. CIRSMA provides a cost effective method of creating and managing risk assessment documents by providing international control circuit performance selection lists based on EN954, ANSI/RIA 15.06, CSA Z432, CSA Z434, and ISO 13849-1. Companies that manufacture equipment for the international market should take advantage of this opportunity to increase their market share buy offering risk assessment documents as a component of the equipment technical file.

CIRSMA can provide a competitive advantage to production facilities that are facing increased costs due to rising insurance premiums and lost production time. CIRSMA will enable your company to target equipment that poses the highest degree of risk. This will allow a remediation plan to be developed and implemented before an accident occurs. Don't let industrial equipment hazards put your corporate viability at risk. Being on the leading edge of industrial safety technology can help to enhance profitability in the future.
